Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Everton | Moyes defends his actions
Everton manager David Moyes has defended his tactics after his side drew 1-1 in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield.
It was the second time in a week that the Toffees had managed to frustrate their city rivals after the two teams drew 1-1 in the Premier League last Monday.
Had it not been for a mistake from the normally ever reliable Tim Howard Everton could have been celebrating a win rather than the prospect of a replay at Goodison in ten days time.
Defender Joleon Lescott had headed Moyes' men into a 1-0 half-time lead but Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard equalised nine minutes after the break with the ball going underneath Howard at his near post.
Despite his Liverpool counterpart criticising what he described as defensive tactics Moyes declared that he never goes into games looking for a draw.
"It was a tough game and now we have come to Anfield twice in a week and got draws," he said.
"There has been a lot said about us not being in the next round, but we have given ourselves a good chance to go through now.
Defiant

"I have never gone anywhere looking for a draw, I may have taken one in the end, but we have looked after our business and we do things with a bit of dignity at Everton."
In defence of Moyes Everton finished the game without a recognised striker after Victor Anichebe was substituted with an injury.
The former Preston boss is already struggling for numbers up front with strikers Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Louis Saha and James Vaughan all sidelined through injury.
"We had a lot of players out and Liverpool, over the two games had all their players available," Moyes added.
"We did not have the physical capabilities within what we had to do anything different. We would have liked to, but that was all we had.
"You face a side with a lot of big players, who have spent big to win trophies, so that makes it difficult for a side like Everton.
"Liverpool has so much possession and played well. But I felt we were comfortable, defensively. They are in good form and showed it."

You've got to hand it to Moyes, he always comes out on top in the Liverpool/Everton word games. Never gets flustered, doesn't resort to sledge-hammer outbursts, just gives an off-the-cuff remark that can never be taken as an obvious put-down, but always is.

don't know how Rafael said we came for the draw when we took the lead. it should've been a victory if tim hadn't fell asleep. Rafael can cry all he wants, for what reasons i don't know. moyes has no strikers, yobo, fellaini or arteta and has to bring on 2 18 year olds and walks away with his head held high.
can ya imagine if they came with no carragher, gerrard, torres, keane, kuyt and alonso and had to play ngog upfront we'd waste them and then Rafael might have something to moan about.
this is why i love moyes, half a squad to pick from and draws twice with a full strength title contending team.

Its a fuucking joke that he has to answer questins about the waiter whinging about us going out to just "defend" like it was a bad thing. What does he expect us to do with our squad?

The fact that their woeful defending gave us a goal, that a Tim Howard mistake gave them a goal, and that they didnt create any real chances (I think Howard had to make 2-3 saves all game) to win it says more about them, their flaws and that the Waiter can see that for him to complain about our epic defending.

Hes pure class!

Thats how you play mind tricks Ming!

Crank it up Moyesy!

Exactly. The good thing is, regardless of what Benitez says, Moyes will come out on top. Benitez is quickly becoming seen by the media as a moronic, rambling fool. We've known this for some time now, and now the media does also.

Spot on. Post of the day for me.

Less then a couple of weeks ago Ming tried to play up to the fans with his SAF comments, and the following week rejected another contract with the fans support putting the owners under pressure.

A dangerous game, hes about to find out how fickle that lot can be, and how ridiculous he was to try and play the fans of the owner.

Well in Moyesy make him squirm.

Rafael is about to become the first man in history to nail the lid on his own coffin. he's arrogant and disrespectful, 2 qualities which he seems to think are good qualities, thats 'cos he's one of franco's little bastards.

we just think you are a fat melt and soon you will be heading back to where you came from, shame really as you are doing a great job as far as we are concerned.

Moyes is more likely to be linked with any big jobs going than Rafael...

I always thought he was an intelligient, shrewd individual - Until his little rant the other week. Big time respect to Fergie's comment about him being a bit deranged.

Should stick to his laptop and leave the soundbites & publicity stunts to the pros.
