Shortage of strikers could cost us, warns Phil Jagielka

You've ducked every time Ive asked you to name who we could have feasibly signed in those three days. The best mustered was Shane Long. So there's your answer.

Martinez obviously didn't think there was the right player for the right price so he made that call. You're just trying some internet one upmanship with TOLD YOU SO and to fume as we suffered a defeat.

Were a tad too old for this kind of behaviour non?

I never said Shane freaking Long, crazy M86 did.

Martinez gambled, he gambled that TreeA would be back sooner, he gambled that we could get something from the RS and Spurs games. Im not after so called "internet one upmanship with TOLD YOU SO", well ok, maybe with this thread I am, but you are aware I started my whining BEFORE the RS and Spurs games, I started crying like a little girl as soon as the window ended and Martinez didnt add to an already depleted struggling squad.

And no, Im not too old for this, too old for what? Demanding my football club has a fit striker on the pitch? What is the age limit for such a thing? I was soak with Bobby, I was onboard with his style, he was making all the right noises and all the right moves, I personally think hes dropped a bollock here, so im gonna call him out on it.

It doesnt mean I think hes doing a bad job, I realise his long term aims dont fit into my short term need, next Summer we will spend some money, next Summer, thats when all the plans will come to fruit, things will be ok in a few weeks, we will be ok squad wise, well guess what, thats then, this is now, unless he has a way of turning back the clock, the horse has bolted and its not expected back till

Next Summer.

Somewhere, far, far away, there lived a Summer unlike any other Summer, the evil mastermind El Kenwrongio was plotting his cunning plan, marvel as he pulls out the warchest, go wow as he preaches on SSN about the manager promising him CL and watch as we get out spent and out played by teams that have actual strikers that score actual goals, meanwhile, your gonna be sitting in your bedsit in Bootle, in your undies, waiting for Next Summer.

Lol, so much lol. Best bit was you imploring the manager to get a new striker before Lukaku bust his ankle. We signed Traore right? So did you consult your tea leaves before doing this?

Demanding your team lid, ace. I demand they win the next ten games. And if they don't Im gonna rage on the internet.

So again - this striker. Who could it have been? Did we miss out on an ace striker moving to a similar club for a fee we could afford that would prove much better than perhaps saving what little money we have and trying to get full value in summer?

Or should we just panic buy, like you know Walter Smith and the kind. How did that work out for us?

I was also unaware that Martinez will be leaving us at the end of the season, or perhaps I've missed the notice that Association Football is ceasing to exist. Oh hang on - there IS another season after this?

Maybe that Martinez fella with the funny accent is thinking about this too. Rather than throwing his eggs in one basket and gambling on this season to risk future seasons. That wouldn't be good for sustained improvement now would it?

And besides, there's twelve games left. Sorry I forgot you had the magic tea leaves. Where do we end up?

We are a team that has paid quite dearly for having a small squad and a manager hedging his bets on players recovering. We could seriously do with putting hand in pocket in the summer and shouldnt be in the position financially, again, where the manager has to make the decision not to spend in windows. Loans are a reasonable stop-gap for now, but its a little in vain if you arent going to then invest fairly heavily in the summer. Bit bored of having to wait and see in the next transfer window, every transfer window too.

So again - this striker. Who could it have been?Konstantinos Mitroglou, Luuk de Jong, John Guidetti , Danny Ings, Jelle Vossen, Diego Milito, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Miroslav Klose, Stefan Kiessling Did we miss out on an ace striker moving to a similar club for a fee we could afford that would prove much better than perhaps saving what little money we have and trying to get full value in summer? We certainly did.

Or should we just panic buy, like you know Walter Smith and the kind. How did that work out for us?If you think Martinez is only as good as Smith thats your right, personally I doubt he is.

I was also unaware that Martinez will be leaving us at the end of the season, or perhaps I've missed the notice that Association Football is ceasing to exist. Oh hang on - there IS another season after this? Next Summer, RIGHT?

And besides, there's twelve games left. Sorry I forgot you had the magic tea leaves. Where do we end up?7th

Erm, Vellios. Isn't he a striker? He's got good goals per game stats as far as I know. I've mentioned this before a few times, but people keep coming back and saying he's no good, - that Moyes watched him train and that he didn't score in the ressies or the under 21's. And I keep saying that I don't care what he does in the reserves and under 21's. Maybe he isn't any good, but I haven't seen him not being any good because I don't see him train or play in the reserves and under 21's . I think someone said recently that he only scored every 86 minutes - or did I get that wrong? I'd love to have a striker who scored every 86 minutes, even if we had to sell him to Bayern or Barcelona or someone, eventually.

OK, he may not be the prolific striker we want, but given the situation we keep finding ourselves in, why don't we just give him a run and see.

If we are supposed to be chasing fourth and could not improve on Osman and Naismith in the window - we surely have a right to ask WHY WHY WHY. For me it's not so much the lack of striker but the lack of ambition.

Understand the frustration of course mate, but who are we going to ask why to?

You can ask it here but you'll get 35 different opinions.

I think you have answered your own question. By having the management team watch him play in the reserves and under 21s, they have obviously decided that he is not the answer. It doesn't really matter whether you or I have seen him in those games, the manager has and it is his job on the line, not ours

I also think his goals per game/minute stat is a bit skewed given that he spent a fair period where he came off the bench for 5 or 10 minutes and managed to get a goal. But when he was given a longer run, he couldn't deliver the goods
