The Journos getting worried about Everton challenging the Top 4 Thread

I think that most people would agree that our starting XI is as good as any in the prem but our squad lacks the depth to challenge for the top places regularly. If we keep our first choice players fit we should have high expectations, but I can see why journos would expect us to falter. If you look at Utd's squad, they have two top quality strikers and two others that would certainly improve our squad (not necessarily the first XI). That's the kind of depth we need if we want to expect to get into the top 4 and win trophies.

Over to you Bill......

Oh dear, you sound like someone from the Hampstead mafia sunshine, Harriet Harperson perhaps?
As for Talksport, I haven't given it the time of day since Parry & Graham were sacked.

.....er....they weren't "sacked".

Porky left on a point of principle when Keys and Gray were employed and Graham was moved to an overnight shift.

A shift where Porky now joins him a couple of nights a week and as you are obviously a fan, I would recommend you catch the podcast. It ia always a good laugh and there is always plenty of Everton chat :D

But your remarks about The Guardian still make you sound like an ignoramus b)

The journos can say what they want. They probably aren't keen on us - or for that matter another generally unfancied team, e.g.Newcastle - getting into the top 4. They like talking about their favourite clubs, the clubs 'most' people support, i.e. the glory hunters.

Yet on the other hand, I've seen loads of praise for how we're doing. Perhaps it's because we're still not seen as a genuinely serious threat but seriously guys, it doesn't matter either way. Perhaps we'll do better if we're still referred to as 'plucky' and all the rest. Less pressure and all that.

All I know is I'm enjoying the season so far and dearly hope we can keep it up. With things being as open as they have been for many years at the top, I currently see no reason we can't keep pace.

Barcelona eyeing Roberto Martinez as long-term boss after excellent Everton start?

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Roberto Martinez after his amazing start as Everton boss.
The former Wigan manager has hit the ground running at Goodison Park, and has reportedly caught the eye of the Catalan giants, according to the Sun on Sunday.

Barca apparently see the Spaniard as a candidate to be the long-term boss at the Nou Camp, and have been impressed by his start to his Toffees career.

The blue half of Merseyside sit fifth in the Premier League table after a sensational start to their campaign, which has seen them lose only once and take points off Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Martinez already has a relationship in place with the club after forging an agreement to take Spanish starlet Gerard Deulofeu on loan for the season this year.

Incumbent coach Gerardo Martino has a contract until the end of next season, but Martinez could be the main man going forward.

Quick, doesn't look like there's any players going to be sold, so let's start trying to unsettle the manager!

Some blert even asked Martinez about this bs at today's press conference. Martinez just laughed it off & said the journo must have different sources than he has.

But every game is a cup final, as cliché as that seems. There are going to be games were we are depleted (City & Chelsea), and tricky games against big teams (Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Spurs), so we need to make sure that we're picking up points at home. There are winnable away games, and as everyone has said 72pts, is what is needed for top 4. Certainly we've pinpointed this run of fixtures, and March as the 'Key' rounds, which for me are winnable if we approach them all correctly.

Everyone's in the same boat, mate. All of those teams still have to play each other again at least once, for some twice.

and I can assure you that NONE of them will be licking their lips at the prospect of having to play Everton.

Just been pointed out on skysports that we have now won as many away games this season as the whole of last season. Think that knife has been well and truly been replaced by a Colt 45

on SSN then they shown the table and said "Liverpool top at Xmas and look how tight the top 4 is separated by just 2 points with Chelsea sat in 4th" conviently missing us out level on points with Chelsea in 5th now had Chelsea lost tonight and stayed 5th they would of said top 5, pisses me off surely RM should record/save every article and clip of these ****s writing us off and showing the lads this over and over would do everything to motivate me to smash every team week in week out.

What the current coverage shows is that once we lose one and drop off the pace even slightly we'll be totally forgotten about.

The NZ Herald (NZ's biggest paper) leads it's football story with the headline "Abedayor brace lifts Spurs". Then comments : A sixth away win f the campaign (the EPL's best away record), moved Spurs four points from Fourth place where Everton currently sit. Everton's stay in fourth won't last long if Chelsea win at third place Arsenal"...then a lot of blah, blah, blah about the Spurs game

Unbelievable
