The Journos getting worried about Everton challenging the Top 4 Thread

I wonder what would happen if we beat sunderland / Southampton and Stoke.....we'd be right up there at the top....

Then what would they say ?

To be fair, any neutral commentator wouldn't be at all unreasonable if they said they expected Everton to run out of steam at some point. For a start, size of wage bill is bizarrely accurate in prediction league position, season after season (though, in this respect, Everton have punched a couple of places above their weight, most years in the last decade).

i expect us to run out of stream due to smaller squad so I'm not sure why you're acting like fannies over journalists stating what most people think ?

[SUP][/SUP]We've lost 8 games out of our last 55 (since Aug 2012; 7 of those defeats were last season) and our form over the past 15 months puts us in the top 3 in the whole country.

I don't expect us to run out of steam at all - because our form isn't a one off for this season.

Also we do have strength in depth. It's a total myth to say we don't.

Case in point - Baines is a big player for us & has been out a month. And yet we replaced him with Oviedo & haven't missed a beat. If that's not strength in depth & using your squad I don't know what is.

We also didn't have Lukaku for the Chelsea game & still won.
We didn't have McCarthy for the Fulham game & still won.

Anyone seen this article? we're the same as last season apparently.

There are some tortured stats here, in terms of games played we re actually seven points ahead of last season. To say 'we're still in fifth" is utterly meaningless, when fifth this year is two points off top, and last year it was 12! It is interesting though, the way the press still continue to back him. I can't criticise them too much, I was doing the same 12 months ago, he's a canny bugger at selling ****e as gold. Look at the job he's doing on the united fans, most of them are backing him. They remind me of chickens running around a farm yard with no head, they don't realise they're dead already, the grim reaper has come for them and he's wearing a flaxen wig. Probably the most exciting thing about this season is the casting off of his awful mindset. '. We don't have much money here, we do things a different way. We maybe don't have the players some folks do, but we'll give it our best shot'

Yes, however we havent been in top3, also pressure etc may kick in as well as other variables like injuries.

It would be very funny to win the title or come within a whisker and to see him try and take the credit for it (or the press at least alluding to him being responsible) while utd are out of the european places.

Its mostly his squad tho, that cant be argued with.

Granted Martinez improved the key areas, improved the way we play HUGELY.

He built an almost wonderful squad, shame he couldnt really get the best out of it.

Osman and Neville in midfield.

An old addage of journalism states

''Dog bites man'' is not news

''Man bites dog'' is news.

As I said earlier, I couldn't care less if they say ''Everton won't win the league''. The fact they get paid good money to do so is a tad annoying though.

Someone has obviously not read the articles to understand what we're acting like fannies over.

Also, please elaborate on "most people". You are the first Evertonian I have encountered with this "running out of steam" mindset. Which, for the record, is ridiculous when we can refresh the squad in January...
