Leighton Baines

Oviedo seems to me to be a winger converted to a full back. I thought his link up play with Pienaar against Fulham was very good.

While Deulofeu is out Oviedo could be our wide option from the bench once Mirallas flags or in place of Pienaar.

Oviedo played a bit under moyes if anyone can remember?

I can recall a few games where he played down the left with baines and also him playing on the right flank.

I think there was talk going around that Everton had put a price tag of 18 mill on baines which has effectively put man U off, anyone else hear of this?

He came on as sub against Villa at home last season, played as a right winger in front of Seamus and looked OK to me.

....thought Oviedo's defensive qualities would be severely tested against Man Utd and Arsenal, but he wasn't found wanting, particularly against Valencia. Not sure if he plays full back for his country, but he's been a real bonus. Good to have Baines back, though.

is there any way baines and oviedo could both play are are they too similar

Think baines could do a job in a gareth barry role like lahm does for bayern, obviously not full time, just when barry needs a rest and give oviedo game time. Would imagine with games coming thick and fast and hopefully a cup run, bobby will just keep rotating oviedo and baines.

Its nice we're no longer over reliant on baines

For me I would still rather keep him regardless of 16M+... Ovideo has done well yes, but his all round game is still not as good as Baines in terms of link-up play, delivery and dead-ball situations.

Like someone said above, Baines can play anywhere, same as Lahm can.

interesting suggestion which has merit

We need to keep him. I know Oviedo has been great since Baines has been injured, but you've got to remember a few things. Baines has excelled at dead ball situations, this instantly makes him a threat. He's got a killer cross on him, again this makes him a threat. His name is enough to worry opposing managers. We need to keep him. Simply because we'll be weakening our team, and improving the opposition.
