Leighton Baines

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't believe United ever had any intention of signing Baines YET. Hence the derisory bids. They've merely unsettled him and are quite happy to see Evra's contract expire at the end of the season, then they will come in for Leighton, and they'll have us over a barrel.

Baines wasn't going to make that squad any better. That being said Evra has been lousy. Fellani/Baines were plan F and G or Moyes would have bid on them early.

thats my view on it as well.

they will have been hurt by the way we screwed them over for fellaini, no doubt about it.

as i said, the fellaini situation was far from ideal for fellaini after the clause was not met, baines will surely want to avoid a similar farce occuring.

How do you even know Baines wants to go anywhere ? One would imagine if he did he'd have forced the issue last year when Ferguson was manager, or this Summer when they went after him for the second time.

Fellaini was in no rush to sign a new contract in 2011 because he was happy at Everton, there's nothing to suggest yet that the case isn't the same for Baines.

still dont want baines to go...but now we know what ovideo is like..i feel abit better we have a decent replacement...but i dont want baines to go to that scum

To be honest i dont think baines will go, he was a lttle subdued in the first few monthes which worried me but recently he seems more involed, at the matches in his club gear, praising our style of play and oviedo.

He might realise that the grass is almost always never greener outside of this club, hes finally more or less englands first choice especially with cole not getting games at chelsea, we have a good chance at getting champions league place, we look twice the team of utd, fellis tanking at utd.

All that is great mate but it all counts for 0 if he doesn't sign a contract by the end of the season otherwise he (should) be sold regardless

I think Baines will go in January.

Everton aren't going to offer much more money than they did during the last round of negotiations, especially now that Oviedo has shown himself to be a capable replacement.

Another issue about Baines is when he went off in the Derby since then we haven't looked back. Does he come straight back into the team when fit ? I am not so sure, great as he is we haven't actually missed him that much, which can only be a good thing. If one of your best players is out and the results are coming in it shows the squad as thin as it is, can cope.
Either way if he is sold in Jan we have shown that it wont be as much as a loss as it would of been under Moyes when the tactics were to get it wide ASAP

I would probably bring him back in the team....but only if he has signed a new contract and put an end to the speculation.

To put him back in the team with the issue still unresolved would be both disrespectful and de-moralising to the exellent Oviedo.

Baines won't come straight back into the team. He'll be on the bench, and if we're struggling in a game Martinez will bring him on and use that as the excuse to bring him back in.

And that's the right call, because you shouldn't have ANY player as an automatic starter regardless of form. Oviedo is in excellent form and deserves his place.

And I'm the biggest Baines fan there is.

Agree with every word. Would be lousy man management to drop Oviedo.

Wait, you're David Moyes?

The passage of time is amazing. If Moyes had carted Baines off on the last day of the window for £16m or whatever the reported bid was I'd have been up in arms.

Fast forward a few months and now whilst I don't welcome the prospect - I know ultimately I'd shrug my shoulders, **** the pair of them off, but back Martinez to bring in all kinds of talent to make us stronger.

Anyone else like this? I'd rather Baines stayed and we added a few decent bodies in Jan. but if he went and we blew the cash on a major signing or two it might just be the next part of this crazy roller coaster season we're having...
