Fellaini ( from a belgian perspective )

He's not playing as a defensive midfielder. If anything he's being played in a position where he can express himself and play to his strengths.

I've said it before and I'll say it again we bought the wrong player. I like him but he doesn't solve our ball winning problems and he doesn't solve our creativity problems.

He's a good player but he'll never be as good as people make out. He's not someone who we should be building our side around. If we do it's going to be very hard to compliment him and push the side forward.

To compliment him you need an all round midfielder who's good in most areas. I can't see how we can get that type of player, it's simply out of our price range.

That's my honest opinion on Fellaini.

We should get Moutinho and Veloso...Mr Moyes, break the [Poor language removed]' bank, please.

going back to pip's initial point, howd u think this formation/team would suit marouane

Howard
Yobo Jagielka Lescott

Rodwell

Fellaini Cahill

Arteta Piennaar

Yakubu Saha

A 3-5-2 formation, would this perhaps suit him bip?

I barely know Rodwell, so I really can't comment. My analysis from the original post come from a 4-4-2 perspective. That's how we played at Standard* and it suited Marouane very well. I'm sure he could settle just fine in a 3-5-2 or a 4-5-1, but I like 4-4-2 best ( personnal opinion that is )

* I've noticed how most of you refer to us as just Liege, but you must know that Standardfans hate it as here in Belgium Liege refers to FC Liege, our historic and local rivals . We don't call you the reds, do we?

What does the "Standard" bit mean bip? Is it a standard like a flag, a herald? Or more like standard as in Gold Standard? Or is something totally different in Belgian?

Good posts Bip. We have that kind of player. His name is Arteta. Get Castillo in there to provide cover, Arteta to provide guile and Fellaini to provide goals. Pienaar and Osman on the flanks and it's a reasonably well balanced midfield.

Right now Cahill and Fellaini is our very own version of Lampard and Gerrard.

Yep, Standard like a flag. Originally it was supposed to be "Etendard" ( french name for flag, from old french estendard ,from which the english standard originated ), but the students who created the club wanted to make it sound english, so they went for Standard. So it's actually a noun, not an adjective. You'll find another story on Wikipedia but I guarantee mine is the true one.

he can't play with Cahill.

To be fair I think they can play together. You just need some one behind them holding the midfield.

Castillo, Rodwell, Neville, I'd even say Osman being that there's quite a few people who think that you dont need a full all out DM in the team, but just someone who keeps possesion. Osman's best position is CM so maybe that could work.

I cant think of a time where they have played together well, not even the 20 or so minutes they were on the pitch together against Bolton.
