Transfer Window Assessment

Honestly mate think if he could have gotten rid of heitenga he would have same with gueye, I expect the latter to be loaned to second division france soon tbh, Jelavich maybe their just wasnt any takers and the kone in i think was to give martinez two forwards he thought could do the job, maybe what hes seen of jela changed his mind and thats why he busted his arse to get in lukkaku?

I cant help but think he made those 4 signings blindly without checking out our squad first.

Ignoring Kone....why sign alcaraz as a 6th centre back ?

Just smacks of unimaginative business to be honest.

I agree we pulled their pants down for Fellaini but 13 million for mccarthy? These boys got relegated last season!
Positives:

£27.5m for Fellaini is a brilliant deal.
Lukaku will give us a much needed presence up top.

Negatives:

Overpaid on McCarthy.
Loan signings aren't the answer when trying to build a winning team.
Fellaini money will vanish into thin air come January.

How's everyone else judged it?

I can't even find your post amusing as it's so out of touch with reality. EVERYTHING with this window is NEGATIVE other than the fees brought in.

Roberto Martinez has bought;

Robles -- 1,5 mil for a reserve goalkeeper who wont get a game.
Alcaraz -- Who knows what his signing on fee and wages are but he's now our 6th centre back.
McCarthy -- 13mil The ONLY player who will get in the side in a year
Deulofeu -- No idea on his fee and wages for a season.
Barry -- 1mil fee and 100k odd a week (??)
Kone -- 6.5mil for an absolute donkey whose on his way downhill
Lukaku -- 3mil loan fee with big wages whose with us for a season due to our inept strikeforce

Theres 25mil down the toilet for ONE player who will be in our first 11 in a year. The rest are going to be reserves or single season players.

Count up all these salaries and do tell me how in the name of Zeus we will be saving money on wages ?!

Have a guess on the signing on fees for these players and let me know how we have cash left over....

It's not just you, theres about 50 people on here who think theres money left over when there blatently isn't.....just count the figures and work out the numbers in terms of salary over a season.

In a years time we will be in massive problems.

This is my wory, too. Enjoy this season.

The fact Anichebe can rise to 6 mill is enough to make me happy about this piece of business. It was always going to be sad to see Vic go, but the price is right and we've got another season to find his proper replacement.

Kone will never make sense to me, the only reason why I see him fitting into our squad is because I think if Jelavic realised he was getting picked over.... that, he'd either pick up his game or pick up his boots, Martinez doesn't leave room to feck around and it's obvious he's trying to get the best out of every single player on the pitch. Kone is taking Anichebes spot as an impact player but I'd much prefer Anichebe over Kone any day, seeing how Kone couldn't impact a child army even if he wanted to.

The loans are somewhat of a let down, but it's a season for us to build on, we've got money in the bank (praying Kenwright doesn't all of a sudden need a few ferrari's) for January and the end of the season. This is RM's welcoming season, he needs to groove his way into the club and wrap his head around what we can achieve and what the squad can do. If these are the players that will push our club into the direction we need, then so be it, I just haven't been this excited and nervous for a season in a very long time.

Barry, Deulofeu and Lukaku (supposedly) leave at the end of the season, Replacing Barry and Deulofeu isn't going to be nearly as difficult as replacing Lukaku, but as I said before, I honestly believe his loan's have been for depth and to push the squad to their potential.

1 -- Pretty chuffed at 6mil for Vic to be honest....should have taken 5mil off hull a few years back.

2 -- Yeah Kone cant trap or head a ball, wigan fans saying this last season as well

3 -- Fair enough, but as I keep harping on about, when you calculate signing on fees and loan fees I doubt theres 5mil left.

4 -- It will be impossible to replace lukaku. To be honest if we hadn't signed kone and alcaraz and added it to our pot after McCarthy we could have offered Chelsea around 20mil for him outright give or take.

Your text in bold should be quote of the year on here

any player on a free as a back up is good business to me..

cos when fit mate hed be third choice, duffy i think is just the wrong type for the sytem, heitenga none of us wanna see play cb for us again, which leaves stones who when he signed alcarez he probably didnt realize how good the young lad is, as a free its something i can live with given hes used to the type of syetem so should be comfortable stepping into it, robles likewise is a better understudy or competition than mucha for next to nothing of a fee

I see McCarthy signing as a MAJOR positive to be honest.....he's the one player Martinez wanted and has developed his game massively under the manager already. 13mil is a premium but is he worth double anichebe, yes. He will be a first eleven player for the long term.

The issue I have Is with most of the other signings to be honest.

However in a year

Kone will show to be an overpriced donkey
Alcaraz may or may not have a few games as one of 6 centre backs
Barry hopefully wont hinder lundstrams development whilst being paid 100k a week (?!?)
Jelavic value will keep going down
Osman will be finished
Howard will be a year older so hopefully Robles has the quality
Deulofeu / Barry /Lukaku will be off

...

The ONLY hope I had for this window was to sign QUALITY young players with high potential. We signed James McCarthy who was obviously the first choice, other than him I cant see any value beyond this season.

Most of the signings smack of short termism

Honestly think we might be surprised by that one. Martinez has hinted that we may get Deulofeu for longer (though clearly not permanently) if Barcelona are happy with his progress, and if I remember rightly the loan fee goes down the more we play him? Barry is effectively running down his City contract with us, and I'd be surprised if anyone will take him in 12 months on what he's earning now, so we may end up with a (still slightly overpaid and ageing) free agent on our hands. As for Lukaku, he's beholden to whatever Mourinho's plans are, which means we potentially get more time to develop him or first refusal if he no longer figures.

If the players put in a shift for the club and the fans get behind them, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we'll hang on to any of them past the end of the season. The important thing is that they do their bit and we make them feel properly at home - which Everton is more than capable of.

A lad on another forum posted this: 'Just got back from Finch Farm. There was only 4 of us left when Martinez came out so he stopped for a couple of minutes. He was buzzing about today's business and said they had to work very hard to make it happen. There is money left for January where he said we will be after Tom Ince and back in for Fernando when he only has 6 months left on his contract as he was too expensive today. Also agreed to get the security guards a Chrimbo present as Moyes never gave them **** all ha ha. '

Certainly looks to me like Distin, Jags, Stones as top 3....its rare the 2 first choice centre backs are out at the same time...but if they were theres then a choice of duffy, alcaraz or heitinga.

2 of them need to be sold and of course alcaraz will be staying....shame about duffy but it looks so overbalanced there....and no one other than distin is left sided.

Hope that lukaku and deulofeu are top notch for us and stay beyond a season....

Barry would be 33 In a year and then if we signed him would want a 2 year deal....wed end up with another Neville.
