Was Whelan spending then or not?
C'mon fella that's in the text, Martinez escapes were amazing under such constraints - have you come up with something to beat the FA cup win yet?
"It won't be winning the FA cup will it". It won't be getting relegated either if the manager is capable of miracles and the greatest achievement in premier league history. Merely staying up should be a walk in the park for a man of that calibre.
On gaining promotion to the premiership, they spent £3.5m net and got 10th in the league under Paul Jewell. You're talking about constraints and how amazing it is that Martinez kept them up for a few years. Managerial miracle work no less. And yet, you seem to loathe Moyes, who, on a massive net gain (£30m in 2004), took us to the top 4. Not bringing Moyes up for the sake of it, just don't get the logic there.
I can't be arsed looking up wage budgets. I know Wigan's has always been low, but again, it didn't stop the masterminds Jewell and Bruce keeping them up and didn't stop Moyes dragging us up the league back when we were gash, albeit with a larger wage budget.
And no mate. That FA cup win was unquestionably the greatest achievement by any club, ever, in the 21 year history of the premier league. What about the utterly sh*te RS side containing the likes of Djimi Traore winning the CL? What about United's 1998/99 League, FA Cup and CL treble? Just a couple off the top of my head.
