cant believe how badly weve messed up this lads developement, such a shame i really rated the lad and i know i werent the only one
This 100%. He looked very decent coming into the team a season or so back. He should have been gradually introduced into the team from that point, but Moyes chose to ignore him. If he had the ability for a first team place his confidence to exercise it was defo destroyed at that stage of his development.

A loan will do him good, if he's good enough the experience will be a massive benefit for him if he's not he will be found out.

I personally think Moyes ****ed up his development. Duffy's old man comments on a few forums and said midway last season that Moyes says one minute he can go on loan then the next minute prevents him from doing so saying he's needed and will get game time. His last 2 seasons, with exception to a few games he played 2 seasons ago, have been a waste.

I feel sorry for him, he always comes across well in interviews and from what I saw of him he performed well in the handful of games Moyes allowed him to play in.

If he rubbish in training? Attitude problem? Would be a massive surprise to me if that was the case.

He's been shipped from one club to the next and then left to rot in the reserves. The poor lad needs to get out before his career completely stagnates.

He was supposed to go on loan but he was needed as a backup because of an injury if I recall. Sure it must be frustrating but things like that happen.

One of the reasons Stones might be ahead of Duffy in the pecking order is that he has had a full season playing in the championship. Duffy needs to be playing week in, week out so he can develop.

So we should have benched two out of Heitinga/Distin/Jagielka for the sake of giving this lad a chance? Very decent is a fancy of saying he looked alright in a couple of fleeting appearances. Even in those games his flaws were obvious, painfully slow and awkward with the ball at his feet.

We're not a charity, we can't afford to be giving young players first team players on the basis that it's nice for youth to progress. It's a simple fact that if you're a club competing at the higher end of the league that it's harder to bring through academy products.

How comfy is he with the ball at his feet? I ain't seen enough to judge, and I know Moyes told him to play it safe when he played those few games.

Reason being, the defender who just defends is becoming less and less regarded. Managers are wanting ball playing defenders who can carry it out the back. Which is why David Luiz has been touted at £30mill+ player. Piss poor defender but great technician.

Could be a reason he isn't getting pushed forward.

There was a stage last season when Heitinga was costing us a goal a game, Duffy should of been given a shot then because there wasn't chance he could be any worse.

I'd say the same with Barkley.

Yeah I was thinking the same. That must have sent out a bad message to our young players: "no matter how badly the sniors are playing, you won't get a chance"

...Duffy is a club employee and its understandable if Moyes changes his mind in respect of loan deals. He might have arranged a loan but had to change his mind because of injuries to other players. I'm with the manager on this one. We aren't running a charity. To this end, I'm not with those who feel sorry for him. He'll be very well paid and the manager can only play 11. Duffy is down the pecking order because others are better and I doubt a loan period will change that status.
