Well I would not go along with supporting the likes of WBA unless I lived there, TBH that is no brainer compared to following Everton.

As for clubs taking fans for a ride was that not Manure with a change of shirts every four games!

However the question of money pouring into the game raises the prospect perhaps of a bubble waiting to burst just like the banks and lending. It surely cannot go on and on like house prices.

Indeed Robert.

I hope that when the music stops, Everton find themselves in better financial position than the majority of the clubs, not just in England but in Europe as well.

Ive always preferred a higher league placing over winning a cup tournament, although thats mainly because over the last 15 ish years with too many relegation scraps to our name i just wanted to see us safe in the league, give ourselves a nice platform to improve and bring success rather than struggle each season. Still scraping down the bottom of the league but winning a trophy wouldn't of done that.

But the last few years its changed. We had/have a great base for lauching success from again, performance over the course of a season is a better indicator of where we are then a cup run. Good positions in the league is expected now.

So with no relegation to worry about we can look to expand, do well in the league and win a trophy. I'd always want European qualification through the league rather than a cup cause it shows you are a better team but this year a cup looks our best bet.

And we can enjoy a nice run in the FA cup without worrying about losing out in the league.

although I heard a few players where not that impressed when he would insist on longer training session if he felt it had not gone as good as he would have liked.

They should have trained harder then..... :p

With regard to the thread I see it like this. Trophy's are great, we all love to win things, even nowadays with both the Carling and even the FA cups being somewhat devalued. However what i really want to see is Everton back at the top of the league, and on a regular basis.

To me a higher/top 4 finish is more advantageous to reaching that goal. It increases revenue, it improves the clubs stature, gets us more European exposure and experience - which should improve the players we already have - and it suggests that the squad is better than winning a cup does, eg the '95 team.

If we want to get in the players that are gonna push us to 'the next level' then imo higher league finishes are gonna attract them more than one of cup victories will.

There it is again money, this was never an issue in the good old days it was assumed with Sir John we had it(makes me sound like my Dad:()The talk was how good this player is or who is their danger-man now its how much is he on or how much did he cost usually £20,000 a week and he hoofs the ball.

its a fact though, is it not? That you need to spend to acquire the best.

4th or a trophy ?

tbh i'd grab 1 or the other at this moment in time, as on the showings so far there's rag all chance of either.

i want it all.....NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM.

FFS we aren't boro, the jardiz, bolton et al......teams that didnt even merit me hitting the caps button.

The Nil satis nisi optimum was sadly forgotten years ago or why else have we had relegation fights, and more than our share of players that are not really "Everton" types.here we are every one of us would if truth be told be ecstatic with either option, which shows how far we still have to climb to get our rightful place back.Dave has done the first part in steadying the boat (not this season I know) in that no one now looks straight to our last few fixtures to see if there are points likely in the event of fighting to stay up ,we are now in the second phase of realistically looking for European qualification each year.to me the old motto will only apply when we are in the mix to WIN the prem

The state of the game is players & managers are only in it for there wages thats the problem there not playing for the love of the game, football supporters love the game more than the people who are in it.

The huge wages means the players now have little in common with the average fan,and a lot treat the fans with contempt, years ago a fan would shout about we pay your wages ,now a days that just is not true no club survives on gate money.when average players pick up in a month what a lot of people spend on buying a home or a car, then go out and appear not to care or in certain cases are always injured the fans resent it I think they old bond between player and fan has to a large extent broken down.the players even in the 50s might not have been getting mega wages but it has always been far better than the average earn, but it had never been thrown in your face like it is now ,I mean who was that Chelsea player burning £50 note in front a beggar? not really going to make the fans warm to him.

Football is not longer a sport anymore, it's a business.

You'd think the way Wayne Rooney struts around, that he's some kind of prince. Infact, he's from a council estate in Liverpool. Says it all really, that people like him completley forget his roots and act like complete [Poor language removed], thinking they're different to everyone else.

i have said all along that the bubble of greed will go pop.
at the moment it's looking like the so called credit crunch (i fookin hate that term and am sick to death of hearing it) might be the pin that bursts it, failing that it looks like FIFA / UEFA will do it, they are no doubt waiting for us to get a massive loan and win the p.l. before implementing anything........it will probably be Blurters legacy.

football is hovering around the saturation point where people are starting to get a bit sick of it and the prima-donna's that are being paid king's ransoms for knocking a pig-skin around.

it'll be the casual fans and the corporate money that will dry up as the real supporters will turn up rain or shine, loaded or skint, p.l.or conference.

there are a vast amount of people who have been living the lottery winners life, spend, spend, spend, got to have everything and got to have it now....just bung it on the mortgage cos we've got loads of equity in the house. well you've got loads if you could actually sell it for the inflated price that the estate agent tells you to get your custom, thats why theyve 'fallen' so much so quickly, cos they were never worth those amounts in the 1st place. now it's starting to hit home as they realise they havent got that 75 grand at all, and as theyve kept on adding to the mortgage they arent tied in on fixed rates so the mortgage is getting bigger and all of a sudden they are paying 3 times the amount they used to, but she still has to get her nails done every week, her hair extensions and do lunch every other day with her 'huns', all sitting round looking like they have everything yet actually own nothing.

me, credit crunch isnt affecting me tbh (apart from price rises) as the only money i owe is for my house, never added to it, tied it in for 10 years on a low rate. if i cant afford it i dont get it....simple but effective .

it's these that 'have everything' and go the match cos its trendy that will be the ones who stop going and their money that will no longer go into the game. the popularity will wane and so the sponsorship money will decrease. then us blues will be singing that Gabrielle song.

we're ready.......to rise again !!
