Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Some of these posts are so ridiculous I want to defend the Kone signing that hasn't happened yet, even though I was quite ambivalent about it.

So half a season then

Honestly if you think Kone is not better than Vic you need to take yourself out side and wobble your head until it drops off

Well we were comparing records, when they were both playing as strikers. A lot of people commented on just how good Anichebe was last season for us. I have to say, I am not sure Kone is streets ahead of him, as people are suggesting.

That is not to say, that Kone is automatically a bad signing. Competition is important. Kone's record is not massively superior to Victors record last season, or frankly since he came back from injury last January.

Just my opinion, of course, but why do you think Kone would be better than either of them?
It just seems like a lazy signing, because Martinez has worked with him before, not because he's the best available (and signable).

When is the last time we had a striker with real pace who liked to run at players and make incisive runs behind defenders? None of our current strikers fit the bill and that is the type of player that will fit best with Martinez' style of play.

Our current lot...

Jelavic - in the box finisher.. most dangerous in and around the box. Good one touch finisher.
Anichebe - target forward.. good for knocking the ball in long and holding up play while looking to lay it off to a teammate.

We need somebody with pace who can run at players. Somebody who can do this!

Think he'll even go for more than 5 million after his confederations cup performances (though I'm not convinced he's worth that). He would be a good shout though, will be looking to get plenty of playing time in a top league so he can stay in contention for 2014

He's apparently got a 2 million euro clause.

i will name one. Christian Chucho Benitez formerly of Birmingham. In his last 3 seasons scored 20 in 2011, 22 in 2012 and 30 goals last season. All in the Mexican league but that is an impressive goalscoring ratio. I believe he will cost around 6-8 million from Club America. He is still just 27 and only turned 27 in May. I think he offers much better long term value for money than Kone. I admit his season at Birmingham wasnt the best goalwise but you could tell he had ability and I think he would be a much more astute signing than Kone. Benitez also has a very good goalscoring record at national level.

dont get why people think we only have £5 mil to spend, we could have £12-15 mil for all we know but Martinez might just want kone

I never said we had just 5 million to spend but it's fairly obvious Martinez said he wanted Kone which to Kenwright's credit he's stumped up the cash.

Yeah, this was referred to in another thread. You could take this as good news that we didn't need to sell anyone before buying Kone. Though the deal hasn't gone through yet, so...

Bent's valued at £6-8M, but his wages are £70,000 pw now and no doubt he'd want to increase that with the extra cash knocking about.

Good goal scoring record like, but same age as Kone and he goes through clubs suspiciously quick which sets alarm bells ringing.

I honestly think 5m for a striker who has scored more than 10 goals in a premierleague season is a good buy. Btw that was for ****ehouse Wigan!
