Roberto Martinez ladies and gentleman.

Lets judge all this in 12 months.

I shall bide my time.

IF kone had the pottential to score 15+ goals do you really think that he would be sold for only 5m to everton?

Everybody in the league can outspend us.

Of course he has the potential ... how many did he get last season in a poor Wigan side ? Last season we created tonnes of chances which we never converted to goals... Kone deffo has the potential to turn some of them chances into goals.

But we still might.... people are just being negative over Kone as he isn't 23 and doesn't have a name ending in inho. If he bangs 15 goals in this season I don't care if he's 42 and 18 stone... we need a striker who can score goals.

You should care. Our transfer budget is entirely composed of transfer receipts. Since 2007 we have spent £5M more than we have recouped. So resale value is an important factor in any incoming transfer. I'm not saying that every incoming player has to have a resale value but we have to be realistic and expect most to be saleable at some stage in the future. If Kone flops, and I'm not saying he will, I actually think he has looked decent when I've seen him play, we can pretty much write off most of that £5-7M due to his age and wage demands (more than our entire net spend over six years, I reemphasise). With other signings, Jelavic for example, we will be able to recoup at least a portion of what we spent if we decide to sell.

Of course he has the potential. Jelavic also has the potential to score 15 goals, and he wasn't much more.

What an appalling first signing this would be, a real wake-up call to the Everton reality for most Evertonians.

Spurs, finished one place above us, go and grab a **** hot up-and-coming Brazilian midfielder for 17m, we get Arouna-Journeyman-Looks-Like-A-****-Kone.

Diabolical.

Bearing in mind, the fee reflects he had a year or so on his contract, and he scored more than jelavic did too.

I understand this, really, but If he gets us the goals we so badly missed last season and gets us European football then the transfer has paid for itself. Sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate as they say... why take a chance on an unproven 20 odd year old when the manager can get a player he knows and who he trusts to do a job for a relatively small fee ? I respect everybody's right to their own opinion but seem to be very unrealsistic of the situation the club are in.. we can't just go out and buy a 20 million pound strker because the fans want the club to.... also it doesn't always pay off..... Carroll, Torres, are just two examples of throwing big money at players. Give the manager and his players a chance.

I think your overselling his potential to support the manager.

If he had 15+ goals in him he would,nt be sold for 5m and we would be outbid by clubs who want and can afford to splash that dough for a 15+goal striker.

He is being sold for £5m to everton for the simple reason that those who have more money to spend don,t see a 15+goal striker.

Hope they are all wrong like.

Great fan you lad.

Those that see will see and the rest will come round when they see big players going out the door replaced with less quality.

It,s all about quantity over quality now and the rest of the dough made from the out,s will be boxed off.

Martinez has been played like a piano.

Spurs clearly have funds to spend - whereas we all know that what we have available is limited, and will remain limited...

Another update from GOT's regular soothsayer.

In nearly two decades for Everton, only Yakubu (2007/8) and Saha (2009/10) scored more in a season than Kone did in the season just gone, we can't exactly be sticking our noses up at somebody like him considering we won't be finding £20m down the back of the couch any time soon...
