So why are managers paid in the millions?
Anyone can take a scout's recommendation and buy a player and most clubs only have circa 18 - 20 players to chose a first 11 from and tactics in football are either 1 or 2 up front all of which isn't rocket science.
The whole point of a manager is to make sure the team are at 100% every game under Moyes we vary far too much.
Giving rousing speeches doesn't come into it, it's about through the week picking up on the little things that show a player is in the right frame of mind - the whole essence of the great managers is this.

Hang on.. Tactics are either 1 up front or 2? That's it is it? No zonal or man marking, no deciding how far up the pitch to defend based on speed and fitness, no short passing, long passing, deciding build up play or counter attack, defining width of play, deciding how much you can push forward whilst being able to counter their attacks, judging their attacking speed, the wing backs roles, identifying their key threats and a myriad of other things that make up a teams tactics? Sorry but there is a lot more than 1 up front or 2.
Also within a week of build up, I would of thought that at least one of our players would have a eureka moment and realize that actually this is quite a big game and worth turning up to, even without Moyes who I am still fairly sure wouldn't be walking around saying your useless, you can't play, I want you to lose, and even if he did, I would still expect a better performance from our professional and well paid players wouldn't you?.
Also regarding buying players being just listening to a scout, Moyes scouts most of his recommended signings a lot before buying, your mistaking him for Sven who just got a DVD and went with it, Moyes will check them for himself out a lot before going for it to make sure they fit into his teams system.
Managers are paid millions to win games, as are players, as far as I can see the team was setup correctly, very similar in fact to the City game, the players simply didn't do their part.
Having said that, fair play to the opposition, easy to overlook 3 very, very well taken goals.
