Lescott : would you have him back?

Watching that Man City cam thing, he still seems good mates with Jags and Baines. Stranger things have happened like.

Yeah, Baines even said something to him after the game like "we'll talk later". Sounded like they were meeting up somewhere. I would love to have him back.

It'll be a loan, and City won't authorise any sort of deal to what they perceive to be a direct rival.

If it's in the Premier League, we'd be high on the list of potential clubs to take him, but I think it's more likely to see him move abroad permanently in the summer, or secure a long term loan move to a club in the Midlands for convenience sake, with them picking up 50% of his wages or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if Villa or West Brom went for him.

He's not good enough to improve any club on a permanent transfer who would pay his wage demands IMO. I think it'll be a loan in January at the very least, permanent deal sought in the summer.

If he wants to go badly enough, they'll let him go. West Brom and Villa ? Crazy talk.

And tbh if Sheeds says it won't be a loan then i know what my opinion is (y)

Sheeds can correct me on this, but my understanding is that clubs always prefer the permanent deal if a player is unwanted at the club, but if it's not on the cards then the loan deal is very possible.

So basically City obviously want to sell permanently, but if no club wants to come in and pay him the wages, then there's nothing they can do. Lescott can play regular football at another club whilst staying on astronomical wages at City with a loan deal - no brainer.

Why would he voluntarily take a wage cut by moving?

Steven Pienaar.

Very much the exception to the rule - 99.9% of footballing mercenaries chase the money. Can't blame them either.

I can't see us offering a permanent deal for Lescott and saying to him, "Alright lad, we'll pay you 50% of what you were on at City, that OK?" and him agreeing!

Adam Johnson.

David Moyes has left the door open for the return of Joleon Lescott. Sure, he's a great defender but do the team need his services or tbh do the fans want him?

if Heitinga leaves, he would be more than welcome in my books....but i quess we dont have dough for this piece of business

Adam Johnson.

I can do that as well mate. Berbatov should be next on your list. There's always supplemental reasons - Johnson moved back closer to home at Sunderland, Berbatov secured a move down to south to London, always attractive...

They're still exceptions to the rule. If you honestly think Lescott would take a 50% pay cut for no reason then you're in cloud cuckoo land. Ain't gonna happen. No club will pay a transfer fee for him and the player himself will run out his contract on the astronomical contract and negotiate a Bosman/signing on fee with another club at the end of it. Common sense, can't blame him either.

It's not really about whether we would take him back, it's about whether City are stupid enough to let him go.

If they are stupid enough, then it could cost them the league IMO, and whoever gets him will benefit big time.

Who said anything about a 50% pay cut ? The internet seems to be suggesting he's on 90k a week, i see no reason why a team like Arsenal or Chelsea wouldn't pay him 60k+ a week. Hell, Heitinga is on about that much.

Not many (hardly any) players take pay drops to leave I'm not convinced pienaar is earning less than he was on at spurs to be honest but I'm not certain, I do know Arteta might have a lower basic but im of the opinion he's earning more with other factors involved in the move and I also think Johnson didn't take a pay drop although again I could be wrong. If it does happen as I understand it in the majority of cases it's resolved by sharp accountancy and I don't think Johnson was on huge money at city anyway.

City were adamant they wouldn't loan Johnson and Adebayor this year and I think they felt people were taking advantage whilst they played lescott at the weekend. I do know somebody has asked and was told 'no loan' but obviously there is a long way to go but I certainly believe their current plan is not to loan.
