Player Valuation: £8m
Just thinking about this, with Cahill coming back and guaranteed a place in the line up. Is it worth spending upwards of 9m+ on player who will essentially be on the bench?

Is he guaranteed a place in the team?
If we buy two quality centre midfielders who are able to play in a 4-4-2 we might revert to 4-4-2.
We only play 4-5-1 because Carsley and Cahill struggled in a four. With a mobile defensive midfielder and Moutinho we could be alright in a 4-4-2.
Anyway, It's best to have competition. I don't think Vaughan and Anichebe are good enough or experienced enough to keep Yakubu on his toes. Bringing someone like Bent in would give us two options 4-5-1 and 4-4-2.
Well it would if the Yak broke his leg, i think Moyes wants four strikers in his squad.
Yes i think he is guaranteed a place in the starting 11 as he has proven time and again he is the man for the job and his presence was badly missed last season.
I know what your saying about the competition and i agree but would a player like Bent come when he will know our best formation is 4-5-1 and he wont be the 1
Would add Howard to that list, at least at the moment when we only have two up and coming goalies. The only players I see as key players are Lescott, Arteta and Yakubu to be honest. The rest are players that can be changed and swapped around.
I remember alot of people saying the same thing when Yakubu was signing. Where's he going to fit in? Is he going to play second fiddle to AJ? Is he going to split up Cahill and AJ's partnership.
I don't think Cahill's place is guaranteed, we could easily revert to 4-4-2 and he fits in nowhere then. Considering he's such a key player it's funny that one formation change knocks him out the team.

We've never had a proper centre midfield that was capable of playing 4-4-2, now we look like where going to have one for once 4-4-2 could very well work. Do you see what I'm getting at?
Bent could give us alot of options. He's excellent as a lone striker so he could do Yakubu's role or he could replace Cahill and we go 4-4-2. I'd hate to play against Bent and Yakubu that would be leathel.
Not for the 1st time i will disagree, if Cahill is fit he will start and will be fitted into the side somewhere. Now we all know he plays better in the 4-5-1 role but can play in a 4 man midfield (although not as effective)
This is a special moment, as i agree with you, Cahill is one of the players who has his place guarenteed, people say he doesnt play well in a 4-4-2, but we hardly ever play that, he can play there, people just dont see it often.
