Ok I know its only one game but remember thrashing utd at home 5-0 in 84/85? 3-0 up at h/T 2nd half Robson goes round committing niggly fouls as if he'd given up - Gordon Strachan just rolled his sleeves up and kept on trying that game brought "captain marvel" right down in my estimation. He was always Reidy's bitch

Not sure how Reid vs Robson had ended up in this thread, but, hey, its GOT!

Always rated both players, but, TBH, thought Robson was an all round more complete player than Reid. That in no way denigrates Reidy, who is a legend, but all round, sorry, Robson would get my vote. (90 England caps might back that up a bit).

Caps don't necessary mean the best player, Gerrard has 99 caps is he better than all of them? Ashley Cole's got loads of caps despite being the 2nd best English left-back for the last 3 years

Well, it generally means you are pretty good, and in general, the best player in that position, at that time, in the opinion, admittedly, of one person. Tend to agree with you in way, that caps are not the only way to judge a player, and would I have swapped Reidy for Robson in the Everton team? No way. It is a team game, and the Eberton team at the time were the best. Fact.

That does not mean that the 11-15 players in that team were all the best in their position in the league, but as a blend, it worked. ( as bringing in Lineker proved). Just think that Robson was a better, all round player, than Reidy.

From what I can remember Robson had a bit more to his game than Reid. They weren't really the same type of player, but Reidy owned him every time we played them back in them days.

ashley cole was our best player in the world cup and consistently has been throughout his career
baines hasnt exactly set the world alight in an england shirt either.

It's honestly one of the most irritating things they do, and there's a fair bit of competition tbh.
