Single malts

Right good timing this thread. Im up to the Highlands tomorrow and one of the lads is coming up from Liverpool who emailed me saying hes going to get me into single malts.

I don't drink whisky so tell me what I should be looking forward and how to drink the stuff.

All whisky Is good, even the bad ones. Drink it neat or with a dash of water. Ice will ruin it a bit and adding soft drinks is a no-no. You'll soon learn which style/area you prefer ie: peated or not, highland or speyside or island etc.

But there's no real rules, just enjoy. My personal favourites are bunnahabhain, glenmorangie and glenfarclas but everyone has their own favourite. Enjoy mate.

Cheers G-man. I thought you were meant to put an ice cube in it? So just add a touch of water? Do you eat anything while drinking whisky to accompany it like?

You could get away with one ice cube really, just try not to pile 'em in. And the water, we're talking a tablespoon or less but mate, if you enjoy it another way carry on with it, it's all about personal taste. If you prefer ice use ice, it's no bother. The one to avoid is soft drinks.

As for food matching, I've always liked cheeses with a dram, but garlic bread with mozzarella with it is great (posh cheese on toast really).

also check out the website i posted early in this thread. Does a distillery by distillery product list. Help with the knowledge.
