2025/26 David Moyes

The majority of people went for top half which I agreed with and voted for myself, however I am shocked to see that the handful of people who are often the loudest in this thread about how disastrously we’re underperforming, were the ones with the lowest expectations for the season going into it. It’s an interesting case study. Some might say it suggests an unhealthy agenda, not me though.
? We said he wasn’t very good, and we were correct.
£110M spent and we are no better off than under Dyche.
What is so difficult to understand?

Our best, most consistent, finishes in recent times have come with sticking with a manager long term.

When Moyes goes we can't go through the same cycle again, only to end up with Moyes #3 for another rebuild.

Part of the problem was the crap we appointed, but I think with some we perhaps booted too soon. Maybe Martinez should have got another season? Silva, I think would have fared better with a longer stint, perhaps we blinked?

Silva is a definite maybe, but Martinez, absolutely no way.

We were only going one way with Martinez and that was relegation, he`d lost the plot.

🤣 it’s funny but it’s true in a way, keep any expectations at a certain level, don’t upset things, keep reminders of what could be if things went wrong again, let them all get those nice earners, the fans will turn up anyway.

It makes me laugh when people criticise then get called out on it by some who’s mentality is things could be worse and not they could be better, you know, things to genuinely get excited about. They give themselves away because as soon as we get one or two decent results they can’t help but have a go and brag when it’s their attitude that plays a part in keeping the club the way it is in the first place.
The thing is this is where it kills me ( Not you personally ) but I said yesterday I don't want to be the the buy to sell club that keeps getting brought up on here, and the response I got was we've been a selling club for 30yrs...

Who is the fan with no ambition, when you get a response like that 🤷‍♂️

I know what you mean mate. Most clubs sell to be fair but the difference with us and the rest of the existing crew is the better players leave to actually try to achieve something. When the top teams lose a star player some have already won things there, like a league or cups.

Ideally our better players would move on when they have won things here and perhaps want a different environment or bigger club.

The last few years we had to sell to Spurs, Newcastle and Aston Villa because we regressed .

Oh yeah you can't survive without selling, and it might sound a bit dreamy at the moment, but I don't want to be Bournemouth, I want to be the club their players look as the next step up.

But then there’ll always be a step up from that too. Every club in the world sells players, Man City make fortunes from selling players. As a fanbase we need to move away from being scared of the idea of selling players or we’ll never ever be able to find a functioning model that works for us.

That's my point, but you have to gradually move up the ladder, not stay on the first step..

City, Chelsea, the amount of money they bring through there Academy means selling first team players isn't as big a deal.

We are nowhere near that, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be wanting to not be the level where players just come to be in the shop window.
