2025/26 David Moyes

Asked, in the build-up to that game, for his views on the pair given their lack of recent minutes, Moyes said: “Merlin, we like, Tyler, we like. Tyler, we're giving more time to because of his age. Merlin could have easily been involved in some more games and played a little bit more time. It'll do him no harm to have sat back for the best part of the season and looked at it. No, we like them, they're both good boys.”

Make this make sense

I’m sure Rohl is thrilled that we’ve wasted a year of his career for no reason other than the manager thinks some young players need a period sat on the bench.

Dibling i can - kind of get mate.

But Rohl just doesnt make sense to me, he went out of the team after a stormer at Villa and barely seen since - that doesnt make any sense to me. Especially when you consider the last two games our midfield for my money lost the battle at key points and that we have flogged a 36 year old Idrissa (who also played in a n international tournament) through the whole season - the midfield looks tired.

I say the above in the context of being a total Moyes fan bot.

" I think on average if you sign four I think one probably successful, I think that's somewhat the ratio in where it is. "

What's this crap he's spouting now ? Absolute nonsense, considering the thousands of people the club is employing to get the transfers right this is an absurdly low bar.
Is that the same ratio Anus was spouting in pre season? Thought that was 1:3 success rate…..

If you're at a transfer review meeting and you as an investor dropped 100 mill + on signings last summer and that's the feed back that is coming back on the progress of the value of your investment - you are shifting in your seat.

Effectively saying 'It'll actually have been a good thing for him to have barely kicked a ball all year and him coming back next year no better prepared for the physicality of the league is just what we wanted' is quite the spin.

God, his mouth really hasn't done him any favours this week..

Bottom half finish sees him sacked, surely?

We've got to spend £40m+ odd this summer on Rohl's obligation and Grealish just to stand still.

If we plop £100m on top of that for another club record spend, what are we expecting?

7th to 12th - and the small margins between them.

My hope is always on cups, and winning a 'big game' or two. It's probably why my enthusiasm on Moyes isn't the best.

[Edit] Or maybe put some hope in that we're building towards the next few years, signing upcoming talent who we'll develop. /sigh.
Making a serious attempt to win one of the cups would defo raise our profile among prospective players but, like you say, that's not what you expect from Moyes.

It's clear that he's not the evil monstrosity the satsuma reckons, nor the divine answer that the Moyesiah lot claim. He's here to make us stable and unfortunately that doesn't mean he'll necessarily get us any higher up the table than where we are now.

TFG have bought an asset, not some emotional attachment to the dream of EFC, and they'll be happy with us avoiding relegation battles and treading water comfortably for two or three seasons as our finances slowly improve. At that point, they might bin Moyes off and go for an Ancelotti type, or they might just put us back up for sale at a considerable return on their investment because we're a going concern again.

I really don't think there's much to get excited about for at least another season under Davey, if not two.

Daveys comments from the LiverpoolRS Echo on Merlin, Tyler et al. 🤔

“The team has been doing pretty well, so they've [the wider squad] not been required that often. It's always the ones who are not in who are the ones who you think can do a better job, so it's one of those things.”

“It's always the way, isn't it? You're always hoping that the opportunities come, and when they do, they're ready to take it. I hope they are ready, because we need it... I thought Tyrique came off the bench at Brentford and made a difference, [he] maybe didn't in the game on Sunday. So this is the thing, you never know what you're going to get. There's no guarantee, and we can name whoever we like. But we want them to come on when they do come on and make a difference.”

“I could think of other clubs not too far away, I could think of the levels of what would be expected, how many players are supposed to have been used.

"I think on average if you sign four I think one probably successful, I think that's somewhat the ratio in where it is. I think actually the players who've been here have done a good job, people like Kiernan and Jack have added to it as well. I think we've needed moments at different times from Merlin, and Tyler, a little bit less. Probably in the main we’ve been OK.”
