2025/26 David Moyes

If we dont get Europe in this season he cant be handed a contract extension. Top half might allow him to see his contract out.

If he fails to get Europe though and the owners extend his contract they are sending out awful signals about their ambitions for this club.

Just get him down the road and end this. The manager they wanted is possibly still available, and if he isn't then there's a few good ones looking for a job who wont need compensating.

Strike while the iron is hot.
Agree extension talks would be nuts until well into next season.

Would another PL team want Moyes in the summer? Celtic maybe.

Can only think losing last 4/finishing behind SunderlandLeeds might set off alarm bells.

Even then I think he's safe.

Loving your definition of 'a few years in the wilderness '.
Yeah tbf that's definitely an understatement. I'm not trying to play down the absolute basket case of a club we were for a good 5 years or so, but tbh in the end we managed to emerge miraculously unscathed.

No relegation, new rich owners and new stadium, debts mostly cleared and some financial headroom after years of austerity, most of that awful squad clearing out on the expiry of their contracts. The opportunity was there to have a clean break from those mad years and start a completely fresh project.

The biggest hangover remaining in my mind is the psychological trauma of fans who were put through so much that now they're happy to just exist in the PL without being in immediate danger.

One of the worst things you can do in football is be comfortable treading water while everyone around you is improving. Clubs have bounced back from worse and ended up in a better position that what we're in now. If we're not careful we will fall back into the same cycle of changing managers every 2 years and end up with another frankensteins monster of a squad. We need to get a young project manger, back them and trust them to build a new identity. Under Moyes we will never be able to escape the ghosts of the past.

Celtic are getting Robbie Keane I think...and they'd run a mile from any derby day manager with his pathetic record.

This season was always going to be up and down in terms of results.

My biggest gripe was January and not backing the squad with a striker.

Goals wins games and sadly Barry is not at this level - physically or mentally.

Moyes signed off on him and Dibling who HAS to start over McNeil because he has a future at this club.

Moyes has done excellent for us but I don't think our owners want to rock the boat

It cant be stressed enough that we are at present a point behind where Dyche had us in the points deduction season when the PL wanted gone....and after the squad additions from last summer.

The reboot from the new stadium move has gone terribly wrong. It's been a calamity.

We needed to be putting another 10-12 points on top of what Dyche could do with that team he had.

This job is too much for Moyes. He's a man out of his time. Never go back they say, and this is why they say it.
As usual to keep ramming your repetitive points home you never speak about the full picture.

Let’s look at the squad additions -
KDH - possibly player of the season.
Grealish - missed half the season.
Rohl - out injured for long period
Barry - hard to call this anything other than a disaster.
Dibling - same as above.
Aznou - only cost 8m and bought for the future.

Added to Branthwaite missing the majority of the season.

Am I defending Moyes? Probably not.

Am I being reasonable and looking at the full picture? Yes.

To the league position. Give Moyes better players, well finish higher in the table. Give another manager this squad and we finish mid table.

I don't see Moyes as the long term answer but nobody had us finishing top 8 this season. We will likely fall just short of that with moyes but that's the squad not the manager.
We spent approximately £125m and the only player who cost anything who plays is KDH. The whole argument about what we thought at the start of the season is a false argument because nobody knows how the season will pan out regarding the other teams. We’re not at the start of the season we are 34 games In and fighting for Europe. He’s taken us to one of the worst sides in the league and played a defensive, hit them on the break game plan, inviting pressure and we only attacked once we’d gone behind. Can you imagine a top side with something to go for rocking up at West Ham with 10 men behind the ball? Terrible that but totally predictable.

Prob.webp

No offence Matty but this is nonsense.

Plenty of players out there which absolutely do not have to cost 30/40/50 million each, let alone “one good player for 100 million”

Yes you are ‘hopefully’ bettering your chances of a good player at those fees.

But so many teams around us have proven there are good quality players out there that don’t cost the earth. It’s about having the right scouting strategy & a coach who’s on board.

Numerous examples of ‘value’ signings by Brighton, Bournemouth & Brentford back that up.

100 million can go a long way ‘if’ invested well.

you can’t build a squad with it mate

Injuries are part of the game and we've had significantly less than most of the league. Like now, across the league only West Ham has less injuries than us.
