Are we really letting Weasel Kinnear and his sidekick Hammond run our transfer dealings again this summer?

Given only one player signed permanently, has been any use why we allowing this?
Its strange they aren't getting more flack. The money wasted in summer on players who don't improve the starting 11 is criminal. Especially after Kinnear coming out last summer before a ball was kicked saying how fantastic they had done

I would hazard a guess that the people picking the players are Moyes, Technical Director Nick Cox, Director of Scouting and Recruitment James Smith and Head of Football Strategy and Analytics Chris Howarth. Last three arrived in the middle of last summer. Nick Hammond is responsible for doing the paperwork (negotiating with selling club and player) but doesn't take part in player identification. Kinnear's job is to manage money, likewise not to pick players.

So stop thinking Kinnear and Hammond will be picking the players.

Moyes shouldn’t be picking players full stop. It’s not 2006 anymore and that shouldn’t fall under a manager’s remit.

Yeah, well, he got rid of Thelwell to get that power back.

Let's keep in mind that club did not have this setup in place last summer. Last summer it might have been that Kinnear & Hammond actually did pick players that Moyes turned down. But it's hard to know who decided on which player in the end. I find it hard to believe that club signed any players against Moyes's wishes, though.

Barry is one of those that met a lot of impressive metrics and on paper looked like a reasonable investment given his age. It hasn't worked out and he clearly isn't cut out for the Premier League but he was one of those data driven signings that people bang on about.

They went proven premier quality in Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall. Aside from the Grealish injury, I doubt many would argue that both players massively improved the quality in the team.

The obvious question is why sign players that require development (i.e., game time) like Dibling, Rohl and Aznou if they are not given a run of games to improve?

A lot of the summer transfer activity may well revolve around Branthwaite and whether he stays or goes. My priority would be our defence which needs a good overhaul. Tarkowski and Keane are just not good enough, often enough, to start and Mykolenko is so hit and miss at times, the three of them would be good squad players. O'Brien and Branthwaite are our ideal CB pairing but if Branthwaite goes then we need to look for an experienced CB, better than Tarkowski or Keane.

A RB is needed and if Moyes doesn't fancy Aznou or wants to introduce him a bit slower, as he did with Baines, Coleman, then either we stick with Mykolenko or get another LB as well. We may need a similar type of player to Gueye, run and close down as he wont play as much as this season. But when all is said and done Moyes likes a particular type of player, he doesn't trust youth who can for Moyes seem to be too unpredictable/not set in Moyes's ways - stay close to your channel in case of a breakdown in attack. Dibling, Rohl, Armstrong, Aznou should have had more game time but haven't and that's down to Moyes probably not trusting them/sees flaws in their 'play'.

As far as a striker goes. If Barry has burnt his bridges then get shot. Beto has improved but we need someone like Welbeck who can actually control the ball and bring others into play. Having said that Moyes doesn't play that way but likes a big fella up top.

We have money but will Moyes be able to recruit players that will take us forward. But then again can Moyes take us forward.

Don’t worry - no-one is going to steal Branthwaite from us after yesterday. We’ll be lucky if he plays again before Christmas.
