Typical gutting loss as we've normally experienced.

But you know what? That was probably better than we've played against them, even from our wins.

In recent seasons, I've kind of been pessimistic and expected us to lose somehow. But last night was a shock.

There was a bit of spunk last night. Hopefully, it adds fuel to the fire and the guys become harder and more motivated.

Disappointing we couldn't give Salah a loss to say goodbye, but hopefully VVDick can experience a few before he finishes.

Utter sickener. However, this is the first time in about 14 years that we have been clearly the better team in the derby. I.E Not just that we have huffed and run more, but actually been the better football team. Obviously they win it on 90+10 but the trajectories of Everton and Liverpool have converged and now I honestly believe we will overtake them.

Ten years from now we will be the pre-eminent force in the city, playing at a world class stadium in a revamped docks linked up to the city, and we will finally be leaving that lot in the dust like we should have in the 80's.
There are many times over the last 50 years or soo when we have been the better team in the derby and lost (admittedly most of them are nearer 50 years ago than today). I'm still waiting for us to become a pre-eminent force anywhere. We lost. Again. To a last gasp goal. Again. Moyes lost. Again. That's what he does when it counts!

The truth hurts, but (much as we'd all wish it were otherwise) it's still the truth. To overtake them (even temporarily) we'd need tons of money and the ability to spend it or a more progressive manager. Moyes is good at what he does, but what he does is limited to finishing in the top half of the table and winning nowt..............i don't count the European Texaco Cup as a real trophy :D

Weve got strength in depth in every position.

Moyes has never used a full squad. He has an 11 at the beginning of every season and sticks to it as much as possible, every game.

Meaning all other squad members are rusting and not ready until being thrown in at random and then dropped at will.
Thats the sword Moyes should ultimately die on .
We have seen improvement under him but his inability to integrate new or younger players is the thing that's stiffeling the club. He is a percentage manager who knows that sticking with the same system and players will generally give you enough points for the upper end of the table but never enough to really be in contention for the top spots.
It all depends on what FKN want from the club , the summer will tell us more, I would be worried if they decide on a contract extension as for me that would show a lack of ambition.

You can't honestly believe that.
Yep. They'll binge in the transfer market again and we'll be feeding off scraps.

Nothing will ever change unless we get champions league football (regular champions league football at that).

The gulf between those clubs and the rest is set to widen with the new prize money structure.

The Europa league or Conference will be fun if we manage it in the next few seasons (I'm losing hope for this season). But unless you're a united or Chelsea type that's dropped down into it for a season or two all it does is damage your league placing. You get stuck in a cycle of minor European football one season and then even the threat of relegation the next. Look at West Ham, Forest, Palace (probably bottom half this season) and Tottenham.

Just IMO mate, for starters our regular right back isn't even a right back, our regular left back is useless and we have no cover for him.

You can't say it's nothing to do with Moyes. It's his job to make sure the players are motivated and concentrating until the final whistle. If they're doing that then VVD is properly marked and doesn't score. If you're going to say that's nothing to do with him, then neither are any of the goals we score.

I've had chance to sleep on it. My opinion is still the same.

Boooooo!

Seriously though, we're catching up. I would be lining up Moyes's replacement now with a view to stepping up a level. This may well involve Moyes moving upstairs to an oversight position in which case it'd have to be someone were there's mutual trust and a good relationship (why I still have an inkling it could be Baines/ Coleman). If it's someone from outside the club, then Moyes will have to move aside.

I suspect the TFG will want another year of stability and can clearly show an improvement in the squad and team so Moyes gets 2 more goes at least to knock the rs off their perch.

My feelings on Moyes aside, that wasn't really the point. The point was, i think it's over optimistic (based on historic events) that a plucky derby loss is likely to herald in a period of our pre-eminence........unfortunatley :)

Completely correct.

Said it for years: he'll always use older players and leave young players on the bench or out on loan...even when they've been expensively bought for him now.

That's for two reasons:

1/ he cant coach players, and young players need coaching. He relies on using players already coached elsewhere to do the basics for their position.

2/ playing older pros hands him control over the dressing room and hands him survival. A political move and not one based on who's the better player to get us results in matches...that's where his 'stability' comes from.

You cant build on a manager like Moyes. If the people running this club have any sort of expert guidance they'll be told that and get shut of him before he's allowed to waste another £110M this summer.
