2025/26 David Moyes

We haven’t developed anyone.
You haven't got a clue how they're developing. They weren't ready in August, and they're not good enough to start yet, but next season I believe in them.
Maybe it’s time to ask yourself why Moyes is playing 10 of Dyche’s players rather than his 100 million of signings
Maybe you need to stop moving the goalposts and accept, "yes, Moyes is doing a better job with the same players, I was wrong."

It will be good healing for some on the forum who are feeling better about losing the derby today because two years ago our former manager got beaten by Chelsea.
I'm not Moyses biggest fan, tho he's far exceeded my expectations this time round. I'd love to see a young progressive manager appointed in the summer but every time I see Moyes in the dugout I think 'thank christ Dychey, Stoney, and Woaney arent there'.

You’re making it sound like we’re Man City.

We’re an extremely average mid table PL side. We’ve gone out and spent 100 mill on players that are not only not ready to start a game for a mid table PL side in August, but aren’t even ready by April either. Not even to get minutes for some of them now. Aznou Dibling Rohl aren’t even seeing the pitch.

I think some of them are good enough but they’re not going to develop by sitting on the bench. These lads aren’t 15, apart from Aznou they’re players with seasons of proper football under their belt already. But they’re not good enough to even get minutes for mid table Everton?

Theyre either not good enough and questions need to be asked about why they were bought. Or they are good enough and the question is why they’re not being played.

Your idea of some sort of long term development plan that involves them never playing for us whilst McNeil (who wanted to leave) and Gueye stink the gaffe out is an interesting one.

We don't have billions to spend, we tried that and failed. If we have such crap players, it's amazing what a job Moyes must be doing then?

You need some patience, but you want Mourinho in so that tells me everything about your mindset.

Biggest concern for me is that we are going to be going into all these must win games (after doing the Moyes bottle job in the last 2) with Keane and Tarkowski as the CB pairing. If Moyes was remotely serious about getting us into Europe, it would be a proper RB playing in their actual position and JOB alongside one of the other two.

But no.

Also, McNeil would not kick another ball for us if he was remotely serious about qualifying for Europe. It is an absolute fallacy that he works for the team. Most games he doesn't even bother tracking his man and always has to turn back because he is so one-footed. The odd games where he can be bothered actually trying, he's always behind the pace anyway. I find his selection so frustrating because, he will let his man go in key moments just as often as a young player, but unlike them he has no magic in the other half of the pitch. So, safety first managers like Moyes can peddle this ridiculous anti-young player narrative.

Would love for him to go for it, but he won't and it will cost us Europe. I actually thought we would get Conference League when the season started, but I don't now.

Need to beat ALL of West Ham, Palace, Sunderland and Spurs to definitely get in (assuming we lose to City) and at least win 3 of them (if some other results go our way). But safety first won't do it.

If Beto went off for concussion, he won't be available against West Ham either, which won't help at all.
McNeil played well. It started to turn after he was subbed. George was very poor and Ndiaye didn't get a kick the last ten minutes.

Gueye was our best player.

You can really only critics the manager for the performance - personally I’ve no beef with the performance at all.

We played well.

Two things lost us the game today. Not having full backs and ref decisions.

Find it hard to blame the manager much for that.

The first half an hour was the best we have played in a derby since 13/14. Totally dominant, totally fearless, aggressive and dangerous. The only time the “mentality” could be questioned was the 15 minutes after the non-goal and their goal. Heads dropped before half-time, understandably so, and it became timid.

Then after HT, he got them back into a position where they were good enough to equalise and looked the most likely side to find a winner. Then the best striker on the pitch got injured. Then the best defender on the pitch got injured. Losing Beto ended our chances of winning, especially when George came on and was just as bad as Barry. But some wanted George to start, and Moyes bringing him on for McNeil at that point was a logical move.

The second half had no momentum at all due to the stoppages and Liverpool’s time wasting, which the referee allowed and at times encouraged. They were happy for a point. They were not bashing down the door as we ran off frightened. We lost too much quality on the pitch to threaten, but even still would have been let down by a 1-1 result. Then they spawned a winner from a corner, because that’s what they do.

I think the reason this derby stings most is because it wasn’t like the other ones when we didn’t turn up or allowed ourselves to be run over. We were horribly unlucky in almost every aspect of the game and played well for most of it. The issue is the squad lacks depth and Liverpool still have a few decades left on their contract with the devil.

Spot on mate. Signing "ones for the future" last summer was ludicrous.

There's no way Dibling was signed to sit on the bench this season. I think he was signed for the here and now but for whatever reason he hasn't adapted. Getting him up to speed for the start of next season is a must for whoever is in charge. Painful amount of money to waste if we don't.
