2025/26 David Moyes

I’m not going for any argument. I’ve re-read my posts, out of respect for you, to see if I said “what if” I didn’t and you’ve had 2 chances to prove me wrong and have chosen not to.
You didn’t explicitly say ‘what if’, which in context, was used for scenario setting, which you objected to that.
What you said was ‘we’re in with a shout of Europe’ which is also scenario setting, and while not the precise wording, would be somewhat pedantic to argue isn’t being for the same linguistic end.

But for the purposes of avoiding a slow and tedious evening of reading this back and forth for other users of the forum.
You won, well done, you’re right I’m wrong.
And if you reply to this you shall forever be known as Percy Plantpot,

Thanks.

Thats a win for me.

Being 8th and in a very real position to challenge for all of the European competitions with 7 games remaining after 3 out of 4 seasons of season long relegation battles is already a massive achievement no matter how poor the league is or where we end up mate.

Means nothing until the season ends.

We could lose the majority of those games and end up 11th or worse.

That'd represent a poor season for a club with new owners, new stadium, and £110M spent last summer.

Or we could win some of them and finish in Europe. Don't you get fed up of being negative mate. We have been in good form the last few weeks in particular. It is there for the taking and lets hope we have a decent run.

I am positve. I've been saying we're capable of a European spot for months.

But atm we have people claiming this has been a season where we've "achieved". Well that's BS because we haven't achieved anything.

What, apply the assessment that with nothing achieved until the season's end then we should call it a season of no achievement?

Yes, I think I can manage that.

We finished last season on 48 points (largely thanks to Moyes) and are currently 2 points off that with 7 to play. I think it's fair to say there's been an improvement.

For me, the main argument to support there's been improvement, is that there's not been one period this season where we've looked like getting involved in a relegation battle, which hasn't been the case for many seasons, well, until, err, Moyes took over. And the teams down the bottom are stronger than what last season's were, no matter how much people want to say the league is crap this season.

Also, £110 million is buttons for several PL players these days. Especially on the back of £12 million of that being used to retain a player who was here last season and about £30 million worth of players walking out the door for nothing.

I think you underrate our side. We could easily sell Branthwaite, Garner, Dewsbury-Hall and Ndiaye to 'bigger' clubs for big money. Add in England's number 1 too. And obviously before his injury Grealish. Then add in Tarkowski who's a good Premier league centre half and some good younger players and it's a squad that should be looking to qualify for Europe as Moyes himself has acknowledged by telling the players that that's the target
Branthwaite has been out for most of the season. KDH missed over a month. Ndiaye missed about a month, same for Gueye. Grealish has been out for nearly 3 months now. We have a good squad but we haven’t had many chances for them all to be playing at the same time. January was particularly grim and yet here we are 3 months later 3 points off 5th.

This time in the previous 3 seasons before Moyes came, we were deep into relegation battles with the real possibility of going down, terrified of even playing the poorest teams in league or listening to the likes of Lampard and Dyche highest ambitions being staying in the league. There was no enjoyment at all for at least 3 seasons and it got that bad that there were pitch invasions for staying up.

I am no fan of Moyes but we have to give credit where it is due and since he came back we haven't once been in a relegation battle, we are fun to watch and are battling for Europe for the first time in about 8 years. It is an achievement no matter what happens in the last 7 games imo.

Improvement isn't achievement.

There's improvement mostly in away form. That's where we've improved.

Home form is pitiful.

Again: if we get a euro spot it's achievement. If not then I fail to see what the achievement is.

People who say we've achieved are really struggling here to justify that claim.
