2025/26 David Moyes

That last line doesn't make much sense to me. If you want him gone how can be doing anything other not what you want to be happening? 🤔
How can it not make sense, especially in light of what else I’ve said?

He’s brought stability. He’s brought progress. I’m happy with what he’s done SO FAR.

But, I don’t believe he can push us on and continue the progress. That’s why I would rather see a change in summer, rather than stagnating for a few years when we are in a great place to push on.

My assumption is that some others think the same.

The limiting factor to us pushing on will be how much we are prepared to spend and whether we can bring in the targets that Moyes wants. The limiting factor won't be the manager until we have a squad that is under performing its potential which it isn't.

This is exactly how I feel about the situation too. The problem is, that on here at least, you have to be completely in or completely out on the manager, it seems. I was cool with that when Dyche was in situ as I was completely out on him from day one! These days, however, it's a bit of a chore with every thread essentially devolving into a Moyes is infallible/Moyes is an irredeemable dinosaur diatribe that spans several pages.

Like a few posters on here, I do worry about Moyes being in charge of transfers and building a bit of a Dad's Army squad. However, Chelsea have gone completely the other way with their transfer strategy and that has been terrible for them in a sporting context. From the first minute their young defence (Cucurella excepted) and jittery goalkeeper looked like a liability and we exploited that mercilessly. If Chelsea had an experienced goalkeeper and centre back in that team (e.g. Pickford and Tarkowski) then the shape of the game would have been totally different. They have got their transfer policy wrong, clearly.

I think most posters realise that you need a mix of experienced and young dynamic players in a team to be successful and we are all just arguing about the exact point that balance should be achieved. It's a shame that it is just another front in the Moyes culture wars (I accept that I am guilty of participating in those exact wars before someone points out my hypocrisy) as it's super boring now that literally everything is framed in that light.
Since he’s come back he’s signed two players over 26, one a third choice goalkeeper and the other Jack Grealish on loan which was an absolute no brainer. Not sure why you are worried about him building a “Dad’s Army squad” as currently there is no evidence of that.

This is more towards the middle ground that I wish most of his critics would take.

You don't have to think he's the best manager out there to agree he's done a really good job. If you (not you per se) think he's done a good job, but want him moved on regardless, then you're basically advocating a revolving door policy, and for me, that's unforgiveable. We've seen first hand the damage that can do. Anybody who's been watching football for more than 2 minutes has seen the damage it can and has done to other clubs (yes there's been some exceptions.)

His history of buying players at his previous clubs (including us) is why I worry. That and his reluctance to play the young players that we have signed. Like I say, it's about balance, I'm not opposed to signing some experienced players, I just don't want it to become our default. You're right that we don't have enough evidence to draw firm conclusions on this spell in charge under these owners, only time will tell in that regard, but he has a clear preference for experience in his starting 11, there is plenty of evidence to that effect.

Off the top of my head, he's only ever spent 'serious' money on one player over 30 in 12 seasons here. Distin, and he turned out to be a smart signing.

Edit: Pienaar was 30 when he came back but not sure 4.5m spent on a 30-year-old Pienaar can fall in to the serious money category.

You need to stop taking every post as a slate on Moyes, it seriously can't be healthy for you.

We could bring a young Messi in and it would be Moyes that made him.
It’s a little known fact, but Messi is the result of a prototypical genetic engineering experiment conducted by David Moyes and Bill Kenwright.

Sadly, Bill was brassic, so had to cell, sorry, sell, the Blue Bill MK1 to Barcelona for a knockdown fee, which he then locked away in a treasure chest and buried deep in the River Mersey for emergencies.

In sum, you are entirely correct. Messi was, in fact, literally made by David Moyes.

Are people still judging our relative success based on a time when you could get Andy gray in on a free and win a league title, and win a European competition that no longer exists?

if you were to throw Moyes in a Time Machine he could win a league title in the 80s with Everton, or say United, Liverpool, villa, arsenal, Leeds etc

Completely different time

We should have high standards but got to judge on what is feasible for the era
By the way Villa were relegated in the 80s and Leeds weren't even in the top division so if you're going to have an opinion as out there as that one then do a little research first

Distin was only £5m and was a bit of a pressure buy given Lescott had thrown his toys out the pram to force the move to City.

See, with you, as addicted as you are on Moyes, you also can have a laugh about things..

Moyes is great coach, we can agree on that.

But Moyes didn't make Garner a great player..

Or the likes of "Rice"

I don't want to just single out 1 player like Garner, I just want to see people understanding that talent starts far before a manager pops his head into the picture..

Give Moyes credit
But give Garner the real credit..
