January Transfer Window 2026

Might be tricky to sell Rohl as we haven't even bought him yet

Yeah, ive been quite vocal about selling him in the summer once his obligation is triggered. I also believe Moyes will sell Alcaraz, Mykolenko, Keane, Coleman, Patterson, Gana, McNeil, Beto.

This should give the club a PSR benefit and generate a decent amount of fees as well as space in the wage costs.

I suspect that for this to happen though, we would need to move out at least 2 players this January e.g Patterson & McNeil.

There needs to be significant players moved out although I do wonder if Moyes wont give out new contract offers like he did last season for players who shouldnt be extended.

One more big summer of outs and replacements and we could be in a very positive position.

I don’t know how we stack up against other clubs, but my guess is that even accounting for the one world class product in Rooney, our academy has been an abject failure.
Since Unsworth left the academy and reserves has massively failed. A good steady stream of first team players under him and since it’s been awful. No doubt they will say it’s been a success with the millions pulled in for Simms, and the deal for Dobbin.

Wouldn’t even be able to field a 5 aside team next year if we did this. And a good few of them out of contract anyway

The academy got defunded when PSR regulations stopped the spending at the club.

Despite this the club has made decent money selling academy players in recent years:
- Simms
- Dobbin
- Gordon
-Canon
are the first few that spring to mind and we probably got £60m for them.

Armstrong is on his way through and looks half decent.

It can obviously be better but it’s not as bad as people make out.

Are we not allowed to sign players?

Coleman & Patterson dont get games
Rohl is always injured
McNeil shouldnt be in the squad
Keane & Gana OOC
Beto 1 year left
Mykolenko 1 year option only

Hardly dramatic and should all be replaced.

Wasn’t unsworth part of the problem ? Playing first teamers who couldn’t get into the first team in the under 23s so he could win it , instead of using it to get young lads ready for the first team ?

Considering how we spent our money in summer I’m not confident in our ability to do at least 8 players out and what, 10-15 in. Not happening

With the Boyland comments in the athletic today as linked by @Neiler and outlined by @hetion in the TFG thread...

The one that stood out was that they had expected to spend £200mil last summer. Funnily enough that was the amount i predicted they would spend.

By my calculations the transfers will cost them around £150mil so there should be £50mil still available for fees.

Patterson surely goes to open up some wages.

Mykolenko we have an option on but his contract expires in 2026 so even if triggered it would be 2027 unless we extend - not going to be here after summer I suspect & being linked overseas.

Beto is being linked to West Ham, Roma and Turkey.

McNeil linked to Wolves and Forest.

Surely in Jan we can move on certain players and improve across one or more positions.

But in general im happy we have that £50mil unspent.

Dont need 10-15 players in at all.

Patterson & Coleman are no loss.
Mykolenko & Beto either sell or extend
McNeil surely goes if we get a fee

Then Keane I think Moyes extends & Gana lets see.

If we replaced the first 5 I named with quality and potential then we'd be levels better already.

As I said, I don’t know how we stack up against other clubs. West Ham & Southampton seem to have produced well over the years. Manu had that incredible run with Scoles, Beckhem etc..

..but if we’ve not got a single fullback or striker to challenge what we’re playing now, I’d say we need to do better.

Dont think will sell rohl has talked the lad up in the media. Still think will want keep gana around for another season same with keane. Coleman will retire imo, and agree with the rest. Hopefully a strong end of the season can help us bring in better quality. Is why i think jan could be a key window for us, dont have to go crazy but getting 1/3 in would help us

We've got to stop buying mediocre to poor strikers even if they are marginally better than what we currently have, imo. If we can't afford, or attract, a proper striker then make do until we can and get quality players in in other positions to make up for it. We keep buying bad strikers and then complaining that we have bad strikers. Buying another one doesn't fix that.
That's true, but as the two we have are so bad I'd take anyone who could at least trap a ball consistently and link the midfield. I can honestly say that I can see Barry and Beto ending the season with less than five goals between them,if we're lucky. It's like playing games with ten men.

Maybe at a stretch Keane but I reckon Gana is gone especially after what has happened this season. We have to move on from some of these guys at some point its just lazy not too.
