2025/26 Jack Grealish

He's a wonderful footballer and a real asset to the team but he's a wide player who doesn't really go past a player ( mind you you could say the same about Sheedy and Beckham).

I'd really like to see Moyes play him at 10 . I think we'd see the best of him there.

Last month or so he's lost half a yard and all confidence in taking on a defender.

The truth of the matter is that he needs a rest, and after he gets that he needs a different way of playing that will allow him to be more involved in the game and doesn't see him constantly have to face a wall of defenders when he gets on the ball. In terms of that last point we need to see a lot bettie movement from players ahead of him to give him the option to release it to. Mykoenko effectively robs us of a lot of that because he's not going to overlap high up the pitch, and Barry's movement is chronic.

We've wasted him of late, and the constant use of him without rotation has led to his neutralisation.

If he had Baines behind him at left back, it would be a different story. Unfortunately we’re lumbered with Mykolenko
He had Mykolenko behind him at the start of the season. His own performances have just fallen away and seemingly a lot of blues are refusing to acknowledge it.

If he's got a fitness issue then he needs resting, otherwise he needs a kick up the arse.

Grealish would be brilliant at number 10 if we had out and out wingers on either flank and a good striker who can find himself space in the box.
Up to Moyes and the recruitment team to identify this issue in January.

he needs a left back who is going to bomb up and down the wing all game in order to see him at his most effective

he thrives on fakes and overlapping runs to give him the option to either take on the defender and whip in a cross, play in the overlapping full back or to drag the defender out of position to give someone in midfield the option to either shoot at goal or cross it into the far post

if we had a digne for example, we'd see a much better version of grealish than what we are currently seeing

He’s a very good player but he’s not someone who can come up against the Chelseas and Arsenals of the world and take them on single handedly, he never has been. He’s very good at what he does but without a decent fullback overlapping, and without KDH to link with or Ndiaye to attract players over to other side and create space, he’s going to have limited effectiveness

Who should start instead of Grealish?
Given we're already playing McNeil, why not play him on the left where he belongs and give Dibling a chance?

But the ship has sailed, he should've been rested against Chelsea and Arsenal in games Grealish may as well not have been on the pitch.

Still, it's Burnley next, they're bound for relegation and haven't won in 8, losing 7. If we can't beat them without Grealish then we'll probably just have to accept another season of finishing around 15th.

Other teams adapt to wingers playing well. They generally have a period of being very effective and then when everyone identifies what they are doing teams come up with tactics to stop it. Doubling up, shutting down preferred passing lanes etc. Players form and fitness also go up and down through out the season.

Grealish has been a premier league player for a very long time, if other sides didn't know how he was going to play I'd be amazed.

It's just a lot of excuses.

So you think McNeil could have done a better job than Grealish? He started against Arsenal, I didn’t see that game, did he play well?
