2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

Well there’s the real one where we have a solid defense and aren’t scoring enough which is leaving us in the mid table and not the European spots
We don't deserve the European spots. We've two RB's that don't play. We've a gymnast in LB, and a back up we went for early and no one has seen. We've relied on Garner to fill in at least 3 different places. Our strikers are only that in name. Garner, Grealish, KDH, Keane, Pickford and Ndiaye are the core majority of why we are as comfortable in the league as we are. A little quality to thinly spread. Was obvious we'd come apart at the seams sometime. Grealish is a loan, Branthwaite is long term injured, Beto and Barry can't buy a goal. We're an average squad doing slightly better than expected. What was it 12 months ago? The longest winless run in our top flight history?

Sure this is all true, but if your approach is that this team isn’t ready to push for Europe it actually makes the current management way worse.

Such unhinged takes on this thread , Alcarez should be our number 10 he creates chances when we're not playing against one of the best defending teams in the EPL. Posters on here are so reactive
I know you wont or anyone wont but I would love you all to go back to the replay of that match and watch him, he is a dreadful footballer who looks to have regressed.

Also fun that a lot of discussion in here is about his work off the ball when yesterday we were excellent at that piece of it and made it genuinely hard for Arsenal to play. If it weren’t for a ridiculous moment of decision making it could have been a clean sheet.

This is an embarrassing and hyperbolic stance , he is not an awful footballer lol you can state he's not effective or he has flaws in his game but to claim hes terrible is ludicrous

This team is woefully lacking to be pushing for anything besides league survival and possibly if a kind draw, maybe an fa cup run. In under 12 months, from where we were, that is positive progress. Few sides have ever turned around from one season fighting relegation to fighting the top spots a year later. Perfect recruitment, zero injuries and suspensions, perfect personal lives, zero international call ups, exceptional fair ref/var, and a good slice of luck occur for how many sides exactly?
We're a side that begged 41 year old Ashley Young to stay on, and considered an extension for Doucoure. We've been taken to the cleaners by...
...
Gbamin
Mina
iceland
Schneiderlin
Bolasie
Gomes
Klassen
Allan
Tosun
Walcott

Few sides can manage financial loss of that scale in such a short time. We were already in peril. That we survived the points deduction and actioned a new Mersey River stadium is quite simply amazing. (Also worth noting we didn't auction Goodison off to a housing developer).

Right so we need to keep building it back up and not using old Jack Grealish on loan or playing our maybe promising CB at RB or never getting our expensive signing on for meaningful minutes.

He was dreadful in first half yesterday, but that was the worst I’ve seen him play so some of the shouts are well ott. He’s also never gonna be a top prem player, but think he is a very useful squad player for a uefa / conference league squad, which we’re not, and he’s young, so no probs with him overall.
Also, as bad as he was, he kept running, kept wanting the ball and kept trying to get us forward.
