The idea of making subs is to change the flow of a game and get it turned round if you're losing or if you're trying to consolidate - fairly obvious statement like. But Moyes uses them usually to go like for like and just double down on Plan A.

He just doesn't see the in-game decisions that need to be made. We have options on the bench but we need to go to different formations to utilise them.

Very revealing stat that is.

….we were getting beat by Palace at home earlier in the season. Moyes made 2 or 3 substitutions at half-time as well as a number of positional/tactical changes to turn that one around. We won 2-1, Moyes was awarded Managerial performance of the week.

None of the substitutions were involved in goals so they won’t impact that stat, but they were the key to us getting the result.

First half they got a few very good chances due to there being too much space. 2nd half they got less chances due to there being not as much space.

There was a definite tactical change, or at the very least a change in attitude.

Sometimes you don't need to change tactics dramatically to turn things around. Let us say, in a game Dewsbury-Hall is playing in the advanced midfield role. Moyes brings on Alcaraz for him. We have not changed tactics and in black and white terms it is a like for like. Advanced midfielder for advanced midfielder, but they are completely different players so it changes the dynamic of the attack.

In the Palace game, the crowd was a factor, maybe Palace fitness was a factor, but so were Moyes decisions, Moyes half time team talk, small adjustments made by Moyes, the players themselves picking themselves up and reaching for another gear.

….ha, ha, they were on a long unbeaten run. As per demand, Moyes started Dibling on the right and Ndiaye as no10 (I think) but we were awful. The substitutions made the difference, Ndiaye was moved out to the wing and set up the final goal with a delicious cross from the bye-line.

That’s the trouble with some posters having very fixed views and opinions, they look for excuses rather than giving credit when it’s due. One day Patterson might even have a decent game, you and I can accept that without changing our overall opinion

Though I do think the changes were more forced than tactical genius.

Didn’t mateta miss a sitter 2nd half or maybe even two. Wasn’t like we dominated the 2nd half, like With Newcastle and spurs, had palace got a 2nd it was game over

That incident with 20 minutes to go when Garner shoved over Pino of Palace when he wouldn't retreat for an Everton free kick sparked the recovery in that game not the HT subs.

The subs made zero difference for the 25 minutes after he'd made the changes. We were headed to a defeat only for a yellow card that got the crowd involved. As was said after the match by everyone: it was a Phil Neville reducer on Ronaldo type of moment that turned it for us.

Anyone arguing that a limited manager like Moyes outwitted Glasner is off the charts crackers.

A forced changed is because of injury or even red/yellow card. You said the Palace changes were ‘forced’ and I was suggesting they weren’t.
