2025/26 Thierno Barry

May aswell get behind a young guy in a new country and adapt to a physical league.

At least supporting him might improve his confidence.

Always a race to write people off. Great supporters.

He's been applauded off the pitch when being subbed off, even after poor performances. His goal was given one of the loudest cheers of the season so far. He's being given amazing support from Everton supporters.

The guy is first choice striker, has played the vast majority of games so far, and is on 1 goal almost half way through the season, having missed a number of easy-looking chances in a few previous games. It's hardly beating him to give fair criticism to that picture.
What easy chances has he missed other than the one against Sunderland was it?

I don't know if he is any good or not really, it's hard to tell (I'm not convinced to be honest) but I think the results would be similar regardless of who was playing there. We mess up and take the wrong option int eh final third every time. Even Grealish does it. It's like we overthink everything.

This is outdated from earlier this month but he was the biggest underperformed in the whole league. The issue with Barry isn’t the lack of goals though it’s his general play. We are telling ourselves he has some good link up play because he made some very basic passes to midfielders, we’ve just set the bar so low. His link up play is much much worse than DCLs was.

I would be happy to see someone correct me with stats. But I don’t think any of Barry’s play is creating opportunities for others. He’s a lost puppy when he’s in the penalty box an the pass is never on to him. I’m not actually convinced we’re better with him in the team than Beto. If we play Beto with Alcaraz behind we will get more goals from the striker, despite Betos obvious lack of technical ability. He has a much higher football IQ

Great post. Barry just doesn't look or play like a striker that can score goals.

Yeah it was literally taken out of his path at the last minute by goalkeepers touch.

Some people have just made up their minds about him and like to beat him with every stick they can.
Didn't realise ther keeper got a touch. He's incredibly unlucky not to get something on that and for it to go through his legs then. When DCL had his purple patch season, he had a load of goals scuffed in that would have been just like that

Wasnt an option mate. He never wanted to sign a new contract.
Thank god tbh. He wasnt the answer just as much as beto & barry.
We just need to get our act together in terms of recruiting.
I agree that hes not the answer but hes better than Beto and Barry and we could have strengthened the FBs instead and been no worse off

Better off to have saved £57m and not signed Beto nor Barry and kept DCL and spent the money on 2 FBs
I’d have kept DCL and sold Beto 💯 wouldn’t have signed Barry 💯

Moyes did though. How does he get out of it. Can’t sell Barry without taking a massive hit on him that we can’t afford. Maybe we could sell Beto without making a huge loss who’s want him though?

Moyes has really made a mess of the centre forward area and it’s limiting the team. The fullbacks are the other area that we’d see massive uptick in performances with a couple decent players.

Dom was out of contract, Moyes has never liked Beto and Barry was certainly not a Moyes pick, I’m sure he signed off on him because we were desperate for a striker.

I’m not gonna blame Moyes for our forwards being rubbish.

Hope this enormous screenshot works. Really good piece of clear-headed and smart analysis from someone who actually analyses players for a living (unlike chumps like me who don't really know anything):
