January Transfer Window 2026

Immobile midfielders are a total liability, that’s a very good reason alone to explain why he’s been frozen out at West Ham.
He’s not immobile though. In fact he covers more ground than the rest of the team. He lacks explosive pace but has lots of stamina and is excellent in a press.

The reason he is frozen out at West Ham is Nuno has an issue with him, for some reason.

This is where stats can be misleading, covering ground because you’re constantly playing catch up is a trap.

Having the stamina to press shadows for 90 minutes isn’t something to be happy about. You need pace to actually recover and apply pressure. You can’t carry crabs in midfield anymore, it allows the opposition to walk through you at will.

Immobile is very applicable considering the lack of explosive pace both for recovery runs and attacking in behind. He sits in the middle and lets players run past him where it matters.

He's slow as molasses. The ground he covers, he does so slowly. He maneuvers like an air craft carrier in the center of the pitch.

The guy is good in the same role KDH plays. It’s close to a like for like as we can get. It would be low risk, would cover a big problem and would have massive potential upside.

It’s certainly better than sitting with our thumbs up our arses and tumbling down the table.

Potter was using JWP in the wrong position as a ball recycler. He is best playing more advanced and leading a press.

Watch him play against Leverkusen for WHU a couple of seasons ago - he was excellent playing the KDH role against one of the best teams in Europe at the time.

Obviously he is not a long-term solution but he would solve a lot of issues in the short-term.

I’m sorry mate, I just hard disagree. I watched enough of West Ham last season to know that he was the biggest liability on the pitch. He’s not comparable to KDH at all, KDH has all of the explosive physical traits that Ward-Prowse lacks, that’s why we paid a lot for KDH from Chelsea and why Ward Prowse can’t get in West Ham’s team.

Recalling Armstrong would give us a much more comparable player to KDH (not that I’m advocating for that)

He was on loan at Forest last season (where he had a falling out with Nuno) and then was recalled by Potter. For some reason Potter would play him as a defensive midfielder, but that’s not his game.

He could do a good job for us and add a bit of short-term depth. Given we are short of cover and he brings brilliant set piece taking and pressing ability would make him a potential bargain, in my opinion.

Hes a hard-working, honest pro. The situation he finds himself in at WHU is bizarre and we should take advantage.
