Think that's bollocks to be honest, a lot of players now are simply athletes. You only have to look at how overrated DCL was, James Vaughan, Beckford and Naismith were all far better finishers than he is and we weren't that highly rated. Just look at some of the goals from around 2007 to 2009 from teams like United, Chelsea, Arsenal even TBF RS and clubs like us, Villa and Spurs. Rooney, Berbatov, Bergkamp, Henry, Drogba, Suarez, and Ageuro are all far better than Mane, Haaland, Salah and Cole Palmer. You don't have players who can put same defense splitting pinpoint passes as in the past. Liverpool's success has largely just been on hoofing ball down pitch to Salah or scoring on the break.
and look at the state of the teams below them in that era

whereas now you have sides like palace with olise and eze and wharton finishing 12th past two seasons

i don’t think the top sides are as good as fergusons united or ancelottis chelsea, but i think the league is way stronger from like 6thto 16th than it ever was

alan stubbs was a centre half for a top 6 club in the era youre talking about. he would be in league one in this era

Exactly

Every team in the prem has the resources to attract great players. When you get 20 teams who can buy that kind of quality the DIFFERENCE is usually tactical intelligence and athleticism.

Of course some big teams have lots of quality compared to others. But at the same time those smaller teams have some quality and some tactically excellent managers.

Take an example like wolves, they lost their quality players AND a tactically great manager. What’s left is only the athleticism of 11 blokes with hearts the size of a horse’s!

Not one team is incapable of beating the other now. Go back 20 years and 10 teams never stood a chance due to the lack of resources - the top half was guaranteed results and thus there was an illusion of excellence.

Not saying Thierry Henry wouldn’t be great in today’s prem, but he would find it much harder with the way even lower teams would set up around him and surrounded by defenders who can mark, tackle, PASS, sprint just as fast etc

He's the sixth highest paid manager because since he rejoined only Arsenal have a better away record in the league. You all expect the impossible. We had a best in the class manager in Carlo who was given a budget and we had all of the same issues you blame on Moyes. Maybe you're frustrated because you don't understand football?
Ergo, if you think form and results have nothing to do with the manager I'd politely suggest it could be you who "knows nothing about football".

This league is dogmuck, loads of bang average teams in it, of which we are one.

There’s a euro spot there for us if the players and manager want it enough.

The fans certainly do.
I've never understood why people take this position (nothing personal).

Sure, the top teams in the premier league make the bottom ones look incompetent. That's because they are amongst the top teams in the world.

If you take the 10th placed premier league team and have them play the 10th placed eredivisie team, premier league team comes out on top every time.

If you make the same comparison against serie a, Bundesliga, ligue 1, etc, probably the premier league team 7 times out of 10.

There's a reason why the premier leagues coefficient is such that we get so many teams playing in europe.

Henry would find it easy against today’s level of defender, levels below what he played against. Today’s game is perfect for him a wide forward, no one plays with out and CF anymore.

sorry mate, that just means our league is dogmuck and the rest of Europe is worse.

Muchas grassy arse.

Good to see Tim play well.

Barry at least provides physical presence and sometimes decent movement but I still don't know what to make of him.

Garner continues to impress as does KDH.

Grealish and Ndiaye great to watch.

Did I say that? 90% is determined by squad quality. No manager would have us performing significantly better than Moyes with this squad.
