2025/26 Seamus Coleman

I wonder if that red mist descends on Gueye if Coleman is on the pitch at the time?

I somehow think not.

That's his value to Everton as much as playing time from now on.
Has no one ever been sent off when he is on the pitch or something?

it’s a one off incident. Coleman has barely played for the last 3 years and it’s not happened in any of those non appearances until now.

Also, we can’t have him on the pitch if he is injured. Should we have just left him on unable to move?

Last night was hardly a run of the mill red card, was it? Means nothing if it didn't happen when he was not playing.

Coleman wields a lot of soft power among the squad. They look to him. Take him away and you have a load of children and / or mercenaries behaving the way they like...as happened last night.

He wasn’t taken away though. He took himself away. As unfortunately he is unable to get through a run of games.

And he been away for most of the last 3 years and it hasn’t happened before.

This is a big reach even for you Dave.

Well he is not on the pitch most of the time for some several seasons now, cant remember the last time he played full 20 games. So by that measure we should have regular sending offs.

Get he may have some Influence on professionalism but its certainly not on the pitch.

Pickford interventions should take some credit, Keane was to get stuck back into Gana even after the red card was shown.

He should never have been chosen by the manager after playing recently in two internationals played within days of each other.

Moyes should be picking him for the team more judiciously. There's no point in Coleman staying on the pitch and risking his health.

It took real professionalism and a love for the club for him to do that last night.

That act should be saluted, not used as a stick to beat him with.

When he IS on the pitch (which was my point) he controls the other players and they look to him.

No way that incident happens if Coleman is on the pitch. None.

You`re brain 100% works differently than the rest of the population.

I hope you`re going to leave your brain to science, who knows what they`d find.

Well they certainly look to other players for leadership on the pitch most of the time these days anyway, he is peripheral influence on the pitch due to his absence. I would expect lot more ill discipline if your take was remotely true.

I didn't see children or mercenaries battling for the win after Coleman was off the pitch. What game were you watching?

How can you say that when you can see what he's still been capable of doing for the RoI?
He's a glorified cheerleader, Dave. He definitely adds something to Ireland because we are a very callow side with a huge quality deficit. His leadership and experience has a role there - albeit a limited one. Remember this: Coleman left the pitch with Ireland 2-1 down in Budapest. He had nothing to do with the miraculous recovery, just as he had nothing to do with last night's miracle.
