2025/26 Michael Vincent Keane

Gueye's pass to Keane was a bit risky, but also, Keane should've made some effort to get to it.

Keane shouldn't have shoved Gueye, Gueye shouldn't have slapped him.

Ref shouldn't have sent him off.

Lots of blame to go round, I think.

Disagree with all that.

One person to blame and one only - the fella who slapped his own teammate.

I'm not out to get anyone, apologies for bringing what I thought was a reasonably nuanced view to a debate where singular condemnation is preferred.
I fail to see how Keane is even slightly to blame for getting slapped. Watch Gana jump straight in his face, if Keane just stood there you’d be castigating him for being ‘soft’. If a man squared up to you like Gana does to Keane there’s very few people who wouldn’t get them out of their personal space.

Chuckling at this. The irony is mate, is it's you doing the wider condemning by blaming Keane.

Gueye was the one in the wrong, which is why he got sent off, and why he apologised.

Pointing the finger elsewhere isn't nuanced, it's just silly.

He storms a fair distance to do just that, too.

I think Gana’s instagram post that he apologised to Keane and the team and not the other way around is enough of an indication to silence the debate.

You’d have to have some amount of bias to continue trying to argue Keane is to blame when the player himself is accepting responsibility and fault. Fair play to him for being a big enough person to hold his hand up publicly.

I like the players are showing some spirit and have high demands for each other. I’ve had many a heated exchange on the pitch with teammates. Obviously this went too far but it’s not a bad thing.

Okay, if we're grading where we're putting most blame - of course it's on Gueye.

But to essentially say "that's all there is to it," is reductive. In my opinion.

I do think the red was an overreaction. I do think the mess that lead to the altercation could've been avoided. I do think Keane over-reacted, which then lead to Gueye's over-reaction to his over-reaction.

I'm not really sure why discussing the contributing factors deserves mockery.

Thing is mate, you could go through life apportioning blame in a similar fashion. If someone is randomly attacked in the street, "well, partly their fault - they should have stayed home"

Gana stormed over a fair distance and got in his face, after a spell - Keane pushed him on - that incident happens every game, granted, usually opposition player. Gana started it, and his response to slap him in his face puts all blame on him.

I can understand someone losing their rag in the moment, but the worst of it was Gana continuing after the red. If Pickford wasn't there, that likely becomes 2 red cards.

Well, an exaggerated counter-example is certainly one way to make a reasonable view seem daft.

I'm not equating what Keane did with what Gana did, just to be clear.

It's not an excuse, but Gana wouldn't have slapped him without the push. I don't think that's a 'normal' thing for someone to do to their teammate.

Like I say: it was an overreaction, which prompted another even bigger overreaction.

Agreed completely. Something absolutely popped in his head and there's no excuse for that.

There's only two explanations for blaming Keane.

I hate Keane and I'm gutted he's doing well. It's made me look like a mug and I can't wait for him to make mistake(s) that cost us goals/games.

I've never played a game of football in my life and playing that pass in the box and blaming the player who doesn't want it, looks just fine to me.

If someone is in the wrong and runs 10/15 yards to scream and shout abuse in your face, I’m pretty certain every other player on our team also gives him a little push to get out of his space.

It’s entirely on Gana, if you disagree I’m sorry but you’ve never had a confrontation in your life. If Keane wanted to he could have absolutely bodied him but he gives him the smallest shove to get out of his face.
