Good shout. Head was so conservative.Aussies have learnt from their first innings whilst England just carried on being unnecessarily reckless, what a waste.

Or, at least test cricket against a still decent enough team and in challenging environments, be that the pitch, the location or the atmosphere. It's defo not suited for test cricket though, much better for one day/T20, as you said there is a need for being a bit more savvy/clever at test level.
It was the same on day 1. At lunch they were 105-4. Not great, but still in it. They then lost 5 wickets for 12 runs.Id be interested to know what was said at lunch. I bet it was along the lines of "go hard and smash them out the game".
It's frustrating as in the 1st innings, Pope and Brook were well in, and threw their wickets away, then in the 2nd, Pope and Duckett did likewise. It's one thing getting out early on to a good one, but another to toss your wicket away when you've done the hard work.I don't think it's a fraud, but playing against Australia over there requires composure and being savvy, rather than being purely one-dimensional.
It's all well and good being aggressive when you have the momentum, but in these conditions, the ability to slow the game down and stay out there is key.
I'm not sure we're actually any good at one day/T20 either tbh. 8th in the one day rankings and a distant 3rd in the T20 rankings. It's defo not suited for test cricket though, much better for one day/T20, as you said there is a need for being a bit more savvy/clever at test level.
The maddening thing is they didn't even need to block. I don't think any of the (caught) dismissals were fending off balls that would have actually hit the stumps. The middle order collapse today was purely by them chasing at wide balls. It's almost like teams have gotten wise to the absurdity of our batting, that they're given free rein to play stupidly and all you need is to throw enough temptation out there and they will inevitable chase it.Or, at least test cricket against a still decent enough team and in challenging environments, be that the pitch, the location or the atmosphere.
It's horses for courses: I'd be looking to get under their skin and to slow and tire Starc, rather than going gung-ho.
The balance between white-ball and test cricket has swung too far, and they've lost the ability to block, defend and frustrate bowling attacks.
He certainly wasn't reckless though was he, aggressive doesn't need to be reckless and he played brilliantly although the bowling was very predictable.Good shout. Head was so conservative.
