January Transfer Window 2026

Maybe but world cup year players will want to be starting a player like jesus at arsenal might be available. Esp how the other cf have been performing so far would be shocked if the club was not looking. Also still feel will be pushing sales of mcneil patterson ect to give us more cash to spend

Personally id be looking at fullbacks and shifting McNeil and bringing another winger in

I love him as a flexible squad player but he simply cannot pass forwards through the lines and that limits our ceiling soooo much when he's the starting deeper midfielder. Limits us a lot.

Amazed at how many people don’t see this.

His passing stats since he came here have been consistently poor.

He simply can’t take the ball on the turn and pass it forwards.

This moment had me absolutely screaming and it happens so much. So many moves just don't happen at all because he just doesn't go for it.

His passing is neat and tidy and his crosses and delivery can be great. But we miss out on so many good attacking transitions because we don't have a midfielder who can initiate them regularly.

Should of got modric

Would you be so kind and share us those stats of yours !!
Not OP but -

Normally these sorts of things get derided in here, but if you're interested:

Bottom half for passes into final third and bottom *quarter* for progressive passes (ie passes that move the ball significantly towards the opposition goal).

These things aren't the be all and end all and it doesn't mean he's a bad player. But it's a big problem when he's the base of our midfield - a number 6 is ideally really good at both those things because it's what gets attacks started.

Without your explanation, that just shows me how old I am to how the modern game is looked at now..

or just how quickly its changed into stat analysis over viewing analysis.

For what it's worth I think people can lean into just looking at visualisations like this and not think about it any more than that. Or not understand how to read it in context. Clubs and recruitment teams will have much much more advanced stats available than that, alongside all their video and in-person work etc for the eyeball test.

But I will say it matches up with what I see for me, which is you never see Garner play penetrative passes from deep (har har). Its such a boost to a side when they have a DM that can do that. Every good side has one I feel.

I mean i love Garner so I cant go against what I see/like in a player, but maybe cos I look at football from an on the pitch outlook, cos of playing football ( if you get what i mean )
So ive never taken interest in stats.

But looking at that, its crazy how everything is broken down, tho their can be alot of variables that play in to stats, like having a new manager with a different gameplan and the whole stats could look completely different..

Garner was stuck under Dyche for 2yrs tho..

Absolutely yeah! That's exactly the sort of thing people can forget to take into account when looking at stats (or just when watching a player even). Those stats are from the past calendar year - he was injured from mid October til mid January, so all of that data is from him under Moyes.

I like him a lot too, he can do a job in loads of positions and his 'floor' is very consistent if that makes sense, he pretty much never has a stinker. Super reliable. Every squad wants a player like that. I just really want us to upgrade on him as a nailed on starter in that central/defensive midfielder position.
