2025/26 David Moyes

Pickford, Branthwaite, Tarkowski all signed up for years to come.

That’s a hell of a good start to spine-building.
I'm glad Tarkowski was just a two year extension...and Ilm a big fan of what he's done while here so far.

He's been appalling so far this season and in pre-season.

For my money: I dont really rate O'Brien as a RB (solid most of the time and that's it) but he looks like he could be a real asset at CB where he should be now.

Well mate, if you’re going to go with The Shining, I think this one might more accurately represent some of Davek’s posts regarding Moyes:

I don't like Moyes but don't agree with this. Football is more than points and trophies to me.
It was about community but that's eroded to a low ebb, at least in the top flight. So, if it's not about that or a joyful collective experience, then what's left? Winning things. It's the only objective measure of success. Everything else is just rationalisation.

I disagree. Success can also be setting a goal and achieving it. A successful season this year might be finishing top 8 given where we were. Only a few teams win trophies each season. Have all the other clubs and fans wasted their time that season? That's an odd way to look at it. Why do people keep going to league matches even though we have zero chance of winning the league?
I could set a goal to put my undies on the right way around, is that success?

Yes, all of the other fans and teams have essentially wasted their time in a season where they don't win anything. They might enjoy themselves, I certainly hope they did, but yeah, they wasted their time on a futile activity.

To win trophies regularly you need to be progressing as a club otherwise you'll end up a flash in a pan with no base to fall back on. It's really straightforward logic
So you agree that, ultimately, the aim of being a football club is to win trophies and that, therefore, winning things is the actual measure of success?

That's an absolute horrendous attitude to sport and life in general. Winning trophies is ultimately futile and pointless too in the grand scheme of things. Scottie Scheffler said as much. Things only have the value that we attribute to them. If you only find value in winning trophies then that's pretty sad for you. You face a life time of disappointment.

Mid table would be adequate with this squad, not good. We wont make any SF - the odds with Moyes are pretty slim.
This squad which is still the majority of players you were happy scraping to 17th last year. Certainly in terms of starting 11 where only Grealish and KDH have come in. But now you think they are all capable of being comfortably top half?
