2025/26 Adam Aznou

So should we cut our losses and sell in January lads?

We will never get out of money back but it’s telling that his is a Moroccan international and has been left out of thier squads including the U20’s that’s just reached the World Cup semi final.

On the other side he is a young kid still who has come in to a new country and league and we expect him to be a finished article. Also highly rated at Bayern too

Difficult one TBH

Also about the same they paid for Romain Faivre in that window, it's easy to cherrypick

They also lost 3 of their back 4 in the summer and have replaced them with ease. Its not cherrypicking. No club has a 100% strike rate.
When did everton last sign a fullback who had any quality. Digne? That was 8 years ago.
Are you happy with Evertons recruitment with fullbacks?

Since Digne we’ve only signed 3: Patterson, Myko & Aznou. Why don’t you speak about Bournemouth signing Max Aarons or Diego Rico or Julian Araujo?

It’s the exact definition of cherry picking.

I'd quite happily take araujo as right back in this current squad. Our back up of patterson and aznou are not ready to step in.
In the last 24 months they've bought kerkez, sold, and replaced with truffert. They've a set up that knows what its doing. They tend to have two players for every position. No club has a perfect transfer policy but if you're getting more right than wrong you are doing ok.
I dont really wana make this about bournemouth. Everton cant seem to get any quality in the fullback area. Its a problem.

I mean cool, in isolation, we also got it right once swapping Baines for Digne. Before this they’d also tried and failed to replace Charlie Daniels with Diego Rico. On the right-hand side they’ve also still never replaced Adam Smith who is, when fit, still their starter - think they even played a centre half there last game.

All I’m saying is don’t cherry pick because I’ve just proven you are.

You surely don't disagree with the underlying sentiment though? I'm not saying we should specifically have signed Kerkez or Truffert, or that Aznou isn't a good signing in the long run, but it's surely undeniable that our recruitment over recent years has fallen way, way, short of what lots of other clubs have done.

Sure, we also had no margin for error. It's not as if Bournemouth don't buy bad players.

Recruitment is, in large part, based on spend. Yes you can find value in the market that isn't obvious, but for the most part you need to pay for talent.

Even plucky little Bournemouth were outspending us by a low 9 figures while we had positive net spends and continued net losses.

I know it's boring, it's much easier to say: Patterson bad, Kerkez good. But the best scouts (which also cost money) aren't going to recruit well without a budget, and no one is infallible, even the best.

Lastly, we had a house cleaning this summer, and we've played 7 premier games since then. It seems a bit early to judge the current recruitment setup, we're still paying for sins of the past.

He's definitely a first team squad member as he's not going to be playing many under 21 games and he was signed as a first team squad player otherwise why would he leave Bayern Munich for our under 21s?

Because we offered him more money would be my guess.

He has played zero mins for the first team and is a youngster. He needs to earn his place before he can call himself a first team squad member.

I’m not talking about judging the new set up, I’m saying our recruitment over a decent period has been poor, it’s honestly quite weird that anyone would take issue with it, it’s a widely accepted fact. Very few of our signings in recent years have gone on to perform significantly above their market value, I just don’t really see anything to dispute there. There have been reasons for it, there are reasons for everything, but it’s still true. I’m not reducing it to a comparison between Patterson and Kerkez, I’m pretty sure it was you who opened the door to that particular comparison.
