2025/26 Adam Aznou

I mean cool, in isolation, we also got it right once swapping Baines for Digne. Before this they’d also tried and failed to replace Charlie Daniels with Diego Rico. On the right-hand side they’ve also still never replaced Adam Smith who is, when fit, still their starter - think they even played a centre half there last game.

All I’m saying is don’t cherry pick because I’ve just proven you are.

You can class it as that. I couldnt care. Kerkez/truffert is the obvious success but lucky them to have at least one recent. We're struggling if we're going back to baines/digne. I still watch their players who are prob not in the stand out signings mentioned still look more comfortable than say patterson.
We've major failed with fullbacks.

I’m not talking about judging the new set up, I’m saying our recruitment over a decent period has been poor, it’s honestly quite weird that anyone would take issue with it, it’s a widely accepted fact. Very few of our signings in recent years have gone on to perform significantly above their market value, I just don’t really see anything to dispute there. There have been reasons for it, there are reasons for everything, but it’s still true. I’m not reducing it to a comparison between Patterson and Kerkez, I’m pretty sure it was you who opened the door to that particular comparison.
I agreed with you that it's been poor, so I don't see how I'm taking issue with it.

But saying our recruitment has been poor, without why, places the responsibility in the wrong place.

Applying that to the current setup, while it's obviously too early to judge, money doesn't seem to be an issue. If the recruiting continues to be poor, it's a question of competence. I don't think it's possible to make that determination for the prior four years.

I wasn’t putting responsibility anywhere. I suppose we’re just coming from different angles, I just thought you were suggesting that another poster was cherrypicking when saying other clubs have recruited better than us recently and I was saying I didn’t really agree because they had, whether you used that specific example or not. If you weren’t suggesting that then it’s evidently just a misunderstanding on my part and we agree.

But 16m for Nathan patterson is poor. Hindsight and all that. But he doesnt look up to it in this league.
There isnt anything wrong in saying its poor. It is what it is.

Of course it's been poor, we've been terrible for years and we were hemorrhaging money, in large part, because of it. Doesn't seem to be much of a conversation piece by itself, agreed.

We will never get out of money back but it’s telling that his is a Moroccan international and has been left out of thier squads including the U20’s that’s just reached the World Cup semi final.

On the other side he is a young kid still who has come in to a new country and league and we expect him to be a finished article. Also highly rated at Bayern too

Difficult one TBH
I didnt know anything about the player, so I'm not gonna question how he will work out until we properly see him, but I do question the whole Bayern rating him so highly..

He wouldn't be with us if they did.

Barca / Bayern 2 great academy's, Neither fought to keep hold of him or tried including a buy back option..

So should we cut our losses and sell in January lads?
He is a young player.
In a different country.
Playing in a league that is vastly different to the ones he has played in.
Looks lightweight, tries to do a bit to much on the ball at the moment, added to the fact he is playing in an Everton under 21 that looks lost this season.
Think we should keep him around a bit longer than January.
Work on his strength and let him settle in.

End of the day its a 9m gamble. Lots of young players who look like they have potential dont go on to play at a top level. I thought niels nkounkou looked a great prospect when signed. He hasnt kicked on like i thought he would.
Time will tell. Its about opinions. Mine is we needed someone who was ready to play. Our need for fullbacks is probably greater than most. Looking around at clubs who are signing fullbacks ready to go and some talking about cherrypicking. There may be an element of that. Id love to be in a position as an Everton fan to cherrypick something/anything in this position.

Niels is still only 24. Actually looked a far better prospect than Aznou but the fat Spanish Waiter shoved him out the door.
