Why make it about the same characters in the first place? Seems lazy. For starters IF they are 'younger' versions of themselves then all jeopardy is lost as we know they'll survive.

For that reason alone surely that is a load of old bollocks, they cannot be that stupid.

The book is great. You're right about DeNiro and Pacino not crossing paths previously and without spoiling it, they won't here.

I'm pretty hopeful, certainly the talent involved is good enough to do justice to the original and the book.

PTA is by far my favourite filmmaker working today so I'll be going to watch this on release, each one of his movies is uniquely distinct from each other yet somehow so recognisable. There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Phantom Thread are nothing short of masterpieces.

I have a sneaky feeling that it might bomb at the box office.

Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, they should just leave the original, untouched, as it was with two great actors:
