2025/26 Vitalii Mykolenko

V Palace yet another goal conceded from the same LB area again , thats 6 in a row now.

Concerning.
Thanks to Tarkowski...myko is doing what he is suppose to do in that situation which is closing the space in the center, and leaving the space on the outside...myko was also involved in both of our goals, especially with the pass that ended up being a penalty for us. Not sure why this guy keep being criticised...

Just an observation bud

Over the years, the likes of saka, salah etc have not been as successful against us as they have others when myko plays

He’s poor going forward, he’s more than adequate defensively. He scores we riot…..

Is this a fact or just a vague feeling you have?
I checked, it was a vague (and incorrect) feeling. In the 8 games salah has played against mykolenko he has 7 goal involvements, and in the 4 games saka’s played against him he has 3 goal involvements. So they both have a slightly better record against him than they do overall over the same period.

OK, so checked my self - salah has goal involvements in 3 of the 7 games he has faced Myko (very low by his then standards)
Saka has 2 assists and 1 goal although Myko was not actually on the pitch for one of the assists as he was a late sub.

Anyway, my point being, we often talk on the Myko threads after big games how he kept their wingers/wide forwards relatively quiet.

Those figures don't match with what I looked at but even so, your last sentence is kind of what was getting at. 'He kept him relatively quiet' isn't all that relevant if in the bit that they weren't relatively quiet they came up with a match defining moment. That's part of the issue with Mykolenko, he's pretty decent as a one on defender when the team is set up in a low block, but if we move away from that or the game just opens up for a bit his deficiencies become far more obvious. He's not the worst player in the world by any means but this constant thing of 'he's actually the greatest defender in the world he just isn't great going forward' isn't actually true. The same applies to other players, it's not just a criticism of him, players can be quite good when used in a specific way but also be very limited and and limiting to the way we play. See also Tarkowski, James.

Yeh. I think he gets more grief than is warranted due to his lack of attacking ability. I cannot recall many (if any) instances where he has been run ragged by other forwards. Seamus, JOB, Hibbo all were exposed many times, not so much our Myko (or Baines)

If we played 3 at the back, I’d be happy for him to be the left sided CB. Defensively he’s absolutely fine.

Going forward he’s not anywhere near it. Need a better all round option.

He should become a squad player from next season.
