New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

The roof really detracts from the effect.

Obviously, you can't see the roof from the ground, but the drones definitely show it up. Clearly, I've been watching too much of Noggsy and co over the last few years.

Moyes Out, Screed In!

Was my first premier league game at the new ground last night, a few things I noticed;

Parking - ended up parking where I would usually park to goto Goodison and then walking half an hour to the ground. Wasn’t the end of the world but I’ve no idea where you are allowed to park or where you aren’t.

Outside the ground - great. Seems to be things popping up all the time. I saw a newsagents and other things around. Be great when you want to have a few beers. I hope I am able to do what I used to do which is buy beers and stand somewhere and just take it all in.

Inside the walls, nobody checked my ticket, nobody patted me down. Seemed a bit messy. However the setting inside is just class.

Toilets - not enough outside. Big queues, I think I counted 10 bogs by the wall. Should be about 30 there. People need to go the loo. Should be easy to do so.

Bars and stuff outside - seemed okay, seems like there’s other bars popping up. Waited both times though for San Miguel, clearly the one everyone wants, should be again… readily available.

I was in gate 19. The queue to get in at 7:40 was 3 seperate lines and huge, yet gate 20 next to us, nobody there at all. In the end they opened a disabled entrance to get people in. All seemed a bit mad to me.

The stadium itself is just lovely. However I too am concerned with the atmosphere. This big stand was sold as ā€˜the blue wall’ ā€˜the home end’ to me it’s all over the place in terms of it’s atmosphere, I hope with the new ground we don’t become a bunch of supporters who just turn up, watch, and go home. Look at Galatasary against them tonight. It’s a bear pit, it’s horrible and it’s intimidating, nothing like ours at the moment. I get flags and banners and all that but that lasts for 10 seconds before kick off. We have to find a way of making the place horrible.

Light show - didn’t like it personally, again I thought it took away what should be a horrible atmosphere for the away team and fans, to like ahhhh this is nice isn’t it. Wasn’t for me. Also, we walked out too early for Z cars.

Phones - now you get signal and wifi I saw so many people not even watching the game. It was just annoying. People pay 70 quid to go and sit on their phone and then leave 10 mins early, don’t get it, never will.

We all say we don’t want a singing section, a bloody guy banging a drum, flags, etc etc but I’m telling you what we could of done what that last night. I was sat right by the West Ham fans, we were so so quiet. I’ve of course known Goodison to be quiet but this is our shiny new stadium, it needs to be better. Also, I find it mad that it’s not full. I saw loads of empty seats, sad to see when there’s people like me who can’t get a season ticket.

Getting out - whoever had the idea of just having the 3/4 entrances and exits is an idiot. I love the dock wall, I get its listed etc, but 50k people all trying to leave through a few exits is crazy. What’s the answer? I don’t know but if it was me I wouldn’t have the wall there. Get rid of it and get supporters out quicker and safer.

Also, walking back down Stanley road up by Kirkdale station and side roads I noticed how poorly lit and how unsafe it felt. I’ve never actually felt this in Walton at Goodison, maybe because it was dark, I was on my own and didn’t actually know where I was going but yeah there was times I was like why is it pitch black here.

The positives of course outweigh the negatives, the stadium is unreal, the surroundings and settings is incredible and it’s a joy to be there to watch us, I just think the atmosphere needs working on, somehow.

Gate 20 is Club View which is why Gate 19 tickets won’t work.

They won't. It's a UEFA regulation now that you have to have a certain set of lights for European games and broadcasting.

The benefit of said lights is that you can do pre-match shows like that. Otherwise, meh.

Christ, didn't think I'd be talking about the ins and outs of lightbulbs on a Tuesday.

I get why we need LED lighting, much of it is actually led by the broadcasters, as the lighting needs to be above a certain frequency in order to allow the ultra slow replays.

Doesn't mean we need to put on a light show though, its rubbish and does nothing for the atmosphere.

Yeah I just thought it was a bit weird. A light show, rather just all the lights flicking on and off for about 2 mins with a song from the 90’s playing. It didn’t get me excited, fired up or remotely impressed.
