One of my best mates missus who is a vet briefly worked for a big company that has a load of vet practices in it`s portfolio.
Once a month they would have to meet with a sales manager, who would chastise and threaten any of the vets, who hadn`t " sold " enough examinations and treatments.
You take your dog in for a check up - " has it been wormed, when was the last time it had flea treatment, has it taken medication for the fatal illness caused by snails, it`s claws are too long and need cutting," etc etc.
Same applied to cat owners.
There was nothing illegal about what the vets were being told to do, as it was all " suggested " to the pet owners, who as she said are the easiest customers in the world to sell stuff to, as your selling stuff based on the fear that if they don`t take up the " treatments " being offered by the vets, that they`re bad owners.
She resigned after three months, after telling the sales manager that it was unethical and that she wasn`t prepared to push treatments that weren`t strictly needed, based on falsely shaming the pet owners into treatments.
Sadly, independent vets are becoming a thing of the past, as they get gobbled up by these big vet chains, who in essence are just part of a business portfolio and nothing more.
