Priorities - the league or a tilt at silverware?

What should Everton focus on this season?

Unless you can win the title or relegation is a very possible risk, then it should always be going all out to win something

We are clearly not title contenders and I dont believe relegation is a realistic threat, so Moyes got the priorities all wrong on Tuesday.

Mid table clubs losing cup ties with reserve sides has to be one of the daftest things about modern football. I wish the media would start openly questioning managers on this bizarre trend.

Not necessary to have priorities. We could have had a decent cup run and maintained reasonable league form.

Getting to a final is what I would have liked. We would need some luck on the way but you have a punchers chance in a one-off match. The League Cup is the weaker of the two cup competitions and we've shot ourselves in the foot in a year where we might have been able to get near enough to something to make it interesting.

Wigan won a cup and then basically died. Is that what people would prefer?

I'm more of a long-term stability into consistent cup runs progress kinda man.
What!! Are you suggesting we now shouldn't win a cup because we may be the next Wigan. Jeez, I've heard it all now! In any case Wigan were a totally different situation, we are coming out of financial troubles in good shape and a cup run won't liquidate us....
Players should be able to manage PL and a cup run without going into total physical meltdown....

So you think the cup win contributed to both their relegation and the poor long term health of that club? Not sure I agree, think there were wider off field factors about the club ownership.

But assuming you are correct do you expect the same for Palace and Newcastle? And if not, why? Do you think West Ham are struggling now because of their Europa win or is it more to do with off pitch issues?

What level would Everton need to be at for you to be comfortable with a cup run? Not meaning to have a go, just genuinely curious on the logic.
