2025/26 Thierno Barry

Very very early still but I’m slightly concerned by his performances so far I have to say. He doesn’t look a goal threat…which isn’t ideal when you play with a lone striker & he is going to have get used to the physicality. He was a part of the U21 Euros in the summer and looks like it, not someone who actually started 25 games in La Liga last season.

Still early. It’s not easy for young players to deal with the defenders in this league. He clearly needs time. It’s a huge culture shock for young foreign forwards.

Plenty of examples of young players struggling with quality of defenders in this league.

Sancho
Anthony
Sessko
Isak struggled in the first few months as well.
The same can be said for Gryokes and Woltemade to a certain degree.

Isak scored on his debut, and had 6 goals after 10 games. If that’s struggling I can’t imagine what words you need to use for Barry.

Still no idea whether he is any good. But his general demeanour is awful. From the start, not just after he got frustrated.

We will throw our support behind much less talented players than him, but it’s a very strange vibe at the moment.
Exactly m8, the only thing I was gonna say in this thread tonight was about his demeanor. I mentioned it before, but gave him the benefit of doubt incase thats just how he carries himself, but he's like a kid who's just had his lolly stolen..

I'm not gonna jump on his back yet regarding gameplay, but he seriously needs to change his attitude..

He’s struggling with the physicality of defenders, and his positioning when we are advancing in the final third. Alcaraz was clearly annoyed with him not being in a position to receive the ball when driving forward and looking to release it.

He’s young and finding his feet at a higher level. Needs coaching and patience before we’ll know what he’s capable of.

It's really disappointing this is what this signing is turning into. £30m on a player who might or might not be good in a year isn't what we needed. Even if we settle on that being the case, it would be great if he just showed something to give us a bit of hope it's going to click at some point.

I’m not sure I agree with that. He’s 23 in a couple of weeks, that’s young enough to have plenty of improvement left in him obviously but he’s not a baby just starting out, we’ve signed him for decent money from la liga not a couple of million from league one. I can’t stress enough there’s no need to be saying he’s useless or writing him off but it’s fair to say I expected a lot more from him than I’ve seen so far.
