2025/26 Thierno Barry

It's really disappointing this is what this signing is turning into. £30m on a player who might or might not be good in a year isn't what we needed. Even if we settle on that being the case, it would be great if he just showed something to give us a bit of hope it's going to click at some point.

Not what we needed but unfortunately we will have to take bigger gambles on certain pieces of the puzzle if we hope to progress. Delap was first choice but he jibbed us for Chelsea.

Exactly m8, the only thing I was gonna say in this thread tonight was about his demeanor. I mentioned it before, but gave him the benefit of doubt incase thats just how he carries himself, but he's like a kid who's just had his lolly stolen..

I'm not gonna jump on his back yet regarding gameplay, but he seriously needs to change his attitude..
Not great tonight and not to give an excuse but that service first half had nothing. Also had 0 support every other player was nowhere near him, has to get stronger and conteol his temper more. Was a game needed another player to keep his cool, does have his moments in the game with his movement ect. I think is a good cf in him but becuase we dont have a clear first choice with beto being unpredictable to. We needed a first choice and to ease barry into the team

I’m not sure I agree with that. He’s 23 in a couple of weeks, that’s young enough to have plenty of improvement left in him obviously but he’s not a baby just starting out, we’ve signed him for decent money from la liga not a couple of million from league one. I can’t stress enough there’s no need to be saying he’s useless or writing him off but it’s fair to say I expected a lot more from him than I’ve seen so far.

La Liga is slower paced and less physical, it’s not unusual for players to require a bit of time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football.

I had hoped he’d look a bit more promising from the get go, but I’m not overly surprised or disappointed he hasn’t.

Yeah, I'm not gonna start questioning his game til we get a real picture..

But his demeanor is just gonna give more Ammo to his haters..

I think maybe he was more of an Angus signing then Moyes..

People criticising him for his attitude are being a bit harsh IMO. The boy looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders at the moment and kicking the ball away was just a moment of pure frustration. We’ve all been there. He has the look of sadness in his eyes at the moment and is clearly struggling.

There were a few articles knocking around when we signed him from the Villarreal end, scout reports, journalists etc, who all said he doesn’t suit a lone striker role and his best game is playing up top with another striker.

We don’t play that way, so you wonder why on earth the people who make these decisions, decided he was the striker to spend nearly 30 million on!

If we’re going to continue playing a lone striker in an isolated role up top, then we’re going to miss DCL more than a lot of people will care to admit.

He played a lovely chest pass on the halfway line yesterday and then McNeil played a terrible through ball to Alcaraz.

Barry has moments but yesterday he had barely anything even close to a chance bar a difficult header because the first half he was playing with statues.

Feel for him.

He will have to learn that refs hate us and keep his cool.

I would still give him a run of games.

I think he has potential, but any striker playing in front of those players will struggle as the service is just not there. He’s looked promising at times playing with the first choice players. I’m still hoping he can come good.

Indicative of the current striker market - having seen and been unimpressed by the likes of sesko and gyokeres at well over double barry’s price.

Like others you do have to give him time to adjust but he’s nearly 23 and i’d like to have seen him show a bit more than he had to date.

Last night showed to me that he needs to play with the big boys around him - KDH, Ndiaye and Grealish i.e experience pros with top mentalities that can guide him through a game. He wasn't helped by McNeil, Alcaraz and Dibling who do not have that top level experience and/or are naive and raw themselves. His petulance was disappointing but that's when you need some of those experienced heads to help him out as the referees were once again not giving fouls.

I would say this. I think when the ball is played right then he has a nice touch. People may forget that it was his good forward play that set up the attacks for both Brighton goals.

He is young, in a foreign league, not what he is used to. Last night there were signs that he was frustrated with the play but also frustrated with the contact from the defenders. When he kicked the ball away it was after a shove from one of them, he has to learn to shrug them off.

It may be one of those instances where that first goal will relax him and the floodgates will open.
