Great players know when they’re ready. I admire Baines even more for it. He didn’t want his performances to drop, he didn’t want his career to end playing in lesser leagues. A top player who went out at the very top. What a player. His goals and assists from full back were insane. Up there with the very best in the PL era. Just a shame he was competing with arguably the worlds best LB at the time - Cole for an England start.

To be fair it wasn’t that long ago we signed about 5 attacking mids for the same position (Klaasen etc) and it worked out horribly on the pitch and financially. It’s a valid concern.
