What is the solution to our main problem? (performing under pressure)

We have done Norway in a few games that have mattered, cup quarter final, CL Etc.

That was a big win, yes. The only one. You cant be serious about the CL qualifying. It's not head-to-head, and they really were looking elsewhere that season.

Harsh mate, we all know how much the league position hurts the Oslo dwellers. Listen only one team can win a cup, in recent years we have come closer and closer, certainly Moyes's record has improved compared to his earlier years.

As for bottling games, for me we need to develop consistency against the likes of Wigan, Qprs etc rather then be up for games against the City's and Utds - I think we have had an impact on the title race this year prob more so then any other club.

Psychologicaly, i think we prob felt sorry for ourselves up untill the start of Dec, form ever since has been sublime.

I would concede though that the derby seems to mean more to their players rather then ours. But they have more quality then us for me, especially in the buisness positions.

It does look a bit wayward, you're right. I think what's eating people, though, is that the great form comes either side of the game that counted - and the frustration is coming out.
THIS. 2 no-rubbers sandwiched around THE MATCH and what do we get- fck all, tis the reason i cant be arsed wetting my knickers over meaningless league wins - who fookin cares if we get 7th bollox. i wanted the FA cup. fck. you get half a mil per epl place, thats all. i wanted a shiny thing

That's right. And it's those later stages of tournaments when you find out if you have what it takes.
We have to accept that whereas other poorly (more poorly?) resourced clubs have nicked a trophy away from the elite clubs, we haven't seriously looked capable of it. We have the personnel to hurt teams like them in one off games, we just haven't done it. They look either flat or overwhelmed in all the Semis and the one final, and they're clearly overawed having to face Liverpool (something that is totally unacceptable when Liverpool were a force, nevermind now when they're, like us, a middle raniking club ).

Clubs like Brum and Pompey?

I disagree mate, i dont think we have the quality in the right areas to really hurt teams with huge squads in a once of - i put it down to that rather then bottle if im honest. Ok you can beat big teams in the league, but the context is different, its a different psychological framework in a once of game and more so the further you go in a competition. In a once of, the better/well resourced teams know the margin for error and bring there A game/play their top players. I dont think we can compeate with some of the quality other teams have - given our resources like. Take City, if we played them in the league on Weds - we could beat them - if we played them in the cup on Sat they could smash us 4-0.

Cup compititions are uniuqe - its no coincidence hardly anyone bar the Cl teams win them - seems you either have to go bust or get yourself relegated to win one. Massive slice of luck needed.

you've just made yourself look a right plonker, mate. well done.

I don't think so, just read the posts and ask yourself if the original topic is still really being discussed or whether the thread is now just the same as all the rest.

Trawling for ideas to supplement your half arsed thread, not worth my time. Plenty of other threads to fume at the manager and/or tactics. If you've got nothing original don't start a thread.
If this was a requisite for starting threads, 58.7% of the threads on this forum would have to be deleted.

We need a change of mentality at the club from players, coaches, manager and the board too. Our aim at the start of the season should be to win the league, not gain 40 points, this used to be the case and should still be regardless of the financial situation at the club.

Agree, but how to change the mentality? Changing staff at the club? You know that old phrase about how you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

exactly...our brilliant, fantastic, amazing 4-goal games just highlight what could have been...

Why are you being such a prick? You've made 5 posts now in a thread "not worth your time", and each one has been to belittle it.

feck off.

Getting a bit touchy mate, just pointing out there are plenty of other threads for this discussion.

I tell you what. Point it out again. Go on. One more time just in case your message hasn't got through yet. You've only made 6 posts in this thread which in your own words "isn't worth your time"...I think you need to tell us again how useless this thread is.

Do it for the community...take a hit for the lads. It'd be like your special contribution to this place.

Good boy.

Good boy.

To be fair Degs is right here.

the poll results are very mixed:

new manager
8 - 22.86%

new number 2 (replacing Steve Round)
4 - 11.43%

new tactics with present coaching setup
6 - 17.14%

replace the players who bottle it
7 - 20.00%

there is no spoon
10 - 28.57%

but we can interpret that as more than half of you require change in personell to solve the problem, be that changing players or coaching staff.

When winning clubs buy players, do they also make special note of that player's inate sense of winning? I can't imagine Liverpool did when they signed a bunch of mid-table quality english players (Carroll, Henderson, Downing, Adam etc). So personally I don't think we need to change our squad too much, we just need a winning mentality instilled into them as part of our overall tactics.

My vote thus was for a new manager.
