What is the solution to our main problem? (performing under pressure)

There are many answers to this question, it is therefore disappointing to see a potentially worthwhile thread let down by the poor selection of poll responses.

You realize of course, that if we figure out the beginning to the season we will become known for our end of season collapses.

Is it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all?

The great thing about forum threads is that you can contribute your own words and ideas to it.

The great thing about forum polls is you put plenty of thought into the poll answers, rather than just plucking a few lucky favorites out of your arse.

Get a manager in who isn't a complete bottling fraud, a manager who isn't all arsey and gees his players up for the games that dont matter but caves in when the screw gets turned.

come up with some suggestions yourself then, posh boy.

Trawling for ideas to supplement your half arsed thread, not worth my time. Plenty of other threads to fume at the manager and/or tactics. If you've got nothing original don't start a thread.

You'd think we lost 4 nil looking the threads in the last 24 hours, bloody embarrassing to be honest, sorry but I just don't understand, it's been the same for the last 3 years, why ask the same questions?

We're all loving these 4-goal games and that...but we're also still suffering from that niggling feeling that we're not doing it when it matters most.

We know what the problem is: we don't perform well under pressure. Under pressure meaning:

- the start of the season
- big games, especially six-pointers or essential cup games
- games in which we're not the underdog

We know we have good enough players and even tactics to do better (better meaning top-4 and winning a cup), our perennial 2nd-half-of-season form proves we are capable with the current squad.

So what's the solution? Is there no solution?

What? The solution is get Stevie P signed. We've solved the start of the season problem by having a proven goal scorer.

you've just made yourself look a right plonker, mate. well done.

I hope so...but then again we've had Pienaar for 3 years before that...the only difference is now he's almost 30 years old.

Yakubu scored 19 in his first 25 games for us.

We need a change of mentality at the club from players, coaches, manager and the board too. Our aim at the start of the season should be to win the league, not gain 40 points, this used to be the case and should still be regardless of the financial situation at the club. Without big ambition nothing will change. I'm not saying a shed load of money wouldn't help, it would, but the mentality needs to change. In my opinion, this current squad is capable of challenging the top four if it had more belief, and with 2 or 3 quality additions (Rodwell money?)could challenge at the top if they had the balls to go for it. Dream on guys.

It does look a bit wayward, you're right. I think what's eating people, though, is that the great form comes either side of the game that counted - and the frustration is coming out.
